Fresh blood
The scent hangs in the air
The cold snow sticks, melting slowly
The dense trees block the sky
I cannot see the killer
Although I sense her close-by
My breath in shallow gasps
Disappearing slowly
I stop to catch it
And I see her
I hesitate only a moment
Eager to continue
For I'm in her domain
The hunter
Normally a feared beast
Nods her head at me
She allows me safe passage
She sees me as no threat
I huff my appreciation
Narrowing my cold, yellow eyes
Raising my nose to the air
Taking in one last scent
And pad my way out of her territory
Leaving behind my memory
In search of my own
Fresh blood
