Between My Mom and Dad

we know she can hear us

talking

and arguing about what to do with her

"why is she so damn weird?"

we ask ourselves

she gets good marks at school

but then when she comes home she never

smiles

or laughs

that's why we took away her TV

and told her that her friends can’t come

over to the house

she isn’t allowed to have

any

but when our son's friends call

they can speak to him

he can talk to guys

and girls

if he wants to

but our daughter's head is always hurting

because

she beats herself up

when she can't speak to us

and we don't know what to do with her

so we just make more rules

and make sure she is completely alone

so when she hurts herself

no one will see

and they won't call us bad

parents

she's up in the room that we force her

to share with our fortunate son now

and crying to herself

while she types on the laptop

that was suppose to replace that vacation

she lied to her in promise about

we keep wondering why she acts so awful to us

but keep treating her

like shit
