I've been wanting to write this poem for a long time, and I've finally gotten around to it. When it comes to my poetry, there is a lot of awkwardness when it comes to flow and wording, but this one means so much to me that I just had to write it and torture you all with it. Also, I wanted to keep this simple, so it's only 8 lines long (like Robert Frost's poem, refered to below).
This piece is dedicated to Johnny from the book "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. If you haven't read it, you need to because it's really fantastic, and almost anyone can relate to it's meaning and characters. If you're not familiar with it, the gold I am refering to in the poem is the gold of the children that were saved and the gold of Johnny's heart. Read Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost. To totally get the meaning, you will have to read the book, though.
Golden
Sunny gold in their eyes,
Sweet gold of your heart.
Like the dawn of the day
And the leaves of autumn,
You let yours show bright.
And oh how it shines still,
By your gift to the children
And the gold that they'll keep.
