The lights are going out

and they're going out in chains.

Broken glass glitters Kristallnacht

as a child's cry

both shattered beneath jack-booted goose-step.

-

Barbed-wire runs as flesh

securing life-blood of the war, the

hate-rage-blame and all the things that keep this

twisted memory alive so that it does not

yet again become the world's delayed-reaction truth.

-

Arbeit macht frei.

Makes you free from your life,

(and you, too, Miss Anne, from your Annex)

But you'll have to pay the price

(they'll take and take and take) to wait for

Birdeye and your 42nd rainbow.

-

Six million,

(but really 666 when applied to 8

and that would make a fitting gematriya)

are decimated-disappeared and blown from the face of the world.

Ashes, ashes, we all fall down

into mass graves and death trains and crematory ovens.
