Darkened Skies

Deep past, filled with regret and cries,

Moving forward into the present

Trying to get over the touching years ago

Feeling that the heart was finally healing

Trusting those around and near

Then in an instant shattered and hurt

A drunken mistake from a man

A man of honor, love, and respect

Drank too much and now cannot remember

How he touched his daughter

The way the other man did

Who now lives behind bars

Because he hurt little girls.

A new task is ahead,

To move on from

Every man who lays down the wrong hand

To cope with the fact that

Things won’t always go or be a certain way

That everything happens for a reason

But try to believe there is a purpose and

A meaning to go on breathing

Tired of living with the memories

They enter and never seem to escape

And leave tears and a burdened heart

With a mind racing through time

Wanting to change the past that’s been written

Willing to know the future

With the promises it holds

And if there is a picture with promises of moving on

Getting through it

Dealing with the pain,

Expecting and coping with the fact

That there is no one but one

Oneself is thy own saving grace and worst enemy

Faced with the trials ahead

Carrying the decision to the end

Now a life that feels dead.

Surrounded by darkness

Lost in a tunnel

Praying for a miracle to bring change

A reason to believe this life is worth living

That there is something good to believe

In and that all is not lost

That the sun waits behind

The dark clouds that will soon leave.
