“You’re my twin moon baby” she said one afternoon, the mind of a nine year old connecting that even though we were born on opposite sides of the world it was still the

So we must have that c o n n e c t i o n

Like our matching mood rings that always stay that greenish blue and the boy band posters on our bedroom walls
With secret loves and fold-up air-kissed notes (Pinky swear you won’t tell just how soft his lips almost were)

never mind if mine was a peppermint tongue and hers was butterscotch

I held her hands tight when she pierced her ears the second time exactly the same way she picked up the remains of my broken heart againandagain

And while I transformed into a woman with
(hips)
one size larger than the happiest house wife;

She blossomed into a radiance far beyond the daisy laced picture frame I sent her for her second wedding

When the miles and the time were still working out their excuses and phone calls turned into once-a-year questionnaires,
I sat down on that rusted old swing in the abandoned park we used to call home and read a crumpled note from twenty years before.
