A Broken Heart

Sitting by the bay

on a warm summer day.

Not a word to be spoken

for my heart was clearly broken.

Staring into the waves so blue,

all of my thoughts revolved around you.

Wishing they could wash all of my tears away,

I knew forever in my heart they would stay.

Digging my feet into the soft golden sand,

I knew you wouldn’t be there to hold my hand.

Though it’s been months since last I saw you,

the warmth of your smile’s still fresh in my eyes.

While I sit here reminiscing about times past,

I wonder why time had to go by so fast.

You are gone and always will be

My heart is broken, though love remains in me.
