Author’s Note: Hello one and all. The time has come for another short story. So I dkn’t know how to intro this, so let’s just go with read, review and enjoy :)

A Relationship

What shocked Kiera most about Duncan MacLean was not that he was arrogant, stubborn, bull-headed or persistent. No, that was expected coming from his family. Those traits could probably be traced back to their ancestors, when they had been at the head of their own clan in the Scottish Highlands.

Now what shocked Kiera was that Duncan was still pursuing her when she had fully told him that she was in love with another man and was engaged to him because he was her one true love. One would think that would sort of put off the man, but it didn’t. Not to Duncan.

What was it that he had said? Oh yes, after Kiera informed him of her unavailability, he had given her a hard look. His grey eyes, that reminded Kiera of the colour of slate, roamed her body and even lingered in places. Then when Kiera was properly unsettled and her face flushed, his deep, silken smooth voice rumbled something about possession being nine tenths of the law.

“I’m not a possession,” Kiera had stated firmly and then added, “I don’t belong to you.”

He leaned closer to her then, bringing his clean, masculine scent with him. Kiera didn’t think he wore cologne or even aftershave. If he did, it was subtle. Usually when he got close like he was at that moment, Kiera could only smell his soap and another scent which she had identified as Duncan.

His lips, which were often quirked in that sexy, confident smirk of his and always begged to be kissed, were only inches away from her own and parted to release a puff of breath against her lips. A shiver of excitement raced through her.

“You’ll belong to me soon, Kiera Adams. You can mark my word on that,” he stated.

How did one respond to that kind of arrogance?

Kiera had heard people talking about Duncan’s amazing talent when it came to business. When he wanted something, it didn’t matter how many obstacles were put in his path, Duncan barreled through and eventually acquired what he wanted.

He wanted Kiera now.

However, Duncan had wanted a lot of woman before her and probably even more after her. The man had never even been in a relationship before. She bet words like ‘commitment’ and ‘fidelity’ gave Duncan nightmares. She would be damned before she became another conquest of the town playboy.

Even if he was too handsome for his own good and had more charm than should be legal.

She couldn’t even begin to imagine how forward he would be if he knew that her fiancé, her one truelove of her life was nonexistent. She felt no shame for lying to him. She had never been accustomed to being pursued by aggressive men. Okay, she wasn’t accustomed to being pursued by men, period. The few relationships she had been in had formed on a basis of friendship or acquaintance. No man had ever been as direct as Duncan.

That was probably why when he had first blatantly expressed interest in her, she had become flustered. He had probably expected her to be more experienced and familiar with sexual advances made by strangers, but she wasn’t. One moment, she had been laughing with Brenna and Bridgid MacLean, his sisters and the next moment, Duncan had come up and was brazenly flirting with her.

She became disconcerted and unsure of how to respond so Brenna, the youngest in the family and also the troublemaker, asked Kiera how her fiancé had been doing. Kiera grasped that lie and embellished it to the point of inviting the sisters to help her shop for her wedding dress, although she had told them that her and her fiancé had not yet picked a date.

If she had, would Duncan still be coming to flirt everyday?

The bell on door rang to announce another arrival in the quiet café she had been frequently lately. Kiera knew it was Duncan without even looking up from the book she had been pretending to read while she had been thinking about Duncan. She felt a wave of heat wash over her like a laser and she knew that was his gaze giving her his customary once over.

Kiera tried to ignore the heat and glanced up. Duncan was indeed there, looking her way. He grinned and roguishly winked at her before he turned to give his order to the lady behind the counter. Kiera again pretended to read while furtively watching him interact with the lady.

It was truly amazing to watch Duncan with women. It was as if every woman fell under his spell upon interacting with him. The lady had been polite enough when she had taken Kiera’s order, but she had remained somber and weary. With Duncan, within seconds she was laughing, relaxed and talking warmly. All her problems were forgotten for the moment. It was like watching someone come to life. That was Duncan’s magic over women.

She had also noticed that he didn’t flirt with other women like he flirted with her. She wasn’t sure yet whether that was a good or bad. As he turned to find a seat, Kiera returned her gaze to her book and attempted looking completely engrossed. It probably wasn’t even necessary. Kiera had chosen a small table in the corner of the store that had only one chair. She heard something scrape lightly on the floor.

“Is this seat taken?” Duncan queried, knowing damn well that the chair wasn’t considering he brought it over from another unoccupied table. Blasted man!

Kiera barely glanced at him. “What? Oh… no, of course not.”

Was that disinterested enough? She didn’t want to be another woman who fawned over him. Just because she thought of him constantly, it didn’t mean she had to admit that to him, did it? But what if she was trying too hard to be nonchalant? Would he see through her? She hoped not. That would just be too embarrassing.

“That must be a mighty interesting page.”

Kiera looked up and her startled blue eyes met his amused grey ones. She was immediately wary. What single, sane woman wouldn’t be? Seated on the chair with his long legs stretched before him, one hand was curved around a coffee cup while the other held a chocolate covered donut. He took a bite and licked off the bit of chocolate at the corner of his mouth. The action was innocent enough except for the intensity of his gaze which focused on her gaze, flicked to her lips and returned to her eyes.

“Mm, sweet,” he murmured.

Kiera felt a slight shiver run through her. She ruthlessly forced her mind back to the conversation rather than allow herself to cater to thoughts of his lips and what she wanted to do to them. “Um, what makes you say that?”

“You haven’t turned the page since I’ve entered the café,” he replied.

She hadn’t. “How do you know I didn’t turn the page while you were ordering?”

His grin widened. “I would have seen that in the mirror.”

Kiera glanced back at the counter and noticed that there was indeed a mirror there. Then the realization dawned on her that he must have seen her staring at him the entire time he had been ordering. A blush crept up to stain her cheeks bright red. She picked up her cup of coffee and took a sip while she willed herself to remain indifferent.

“So there is,” she replied.

Duncan leaned forward and covered her hand his own larger ones. “You don’t have to be embarrassed. You know there is nothing wrong in admitting you want me.”

Perhaps he was in this just for the chase. Maybe if she admitted her desire, he would lose interest. Kiera didn’t like that idea. Her pride was also involved. Brenna had told her Duncan believed Kiera was cute and thought it was sweet that Kiera got flustered. Maybe she should stop being so flustered. She could meet his boldness or surpass it. Ignoring his implications wasn’t working.

“I think your ego is large enough from so many other female admissions, adding mine would only be detrimental for your mental health,” she replied tartly. “Besides, you are forgetting my husband.”

“Fiancé,” he corrected immediately. His brows lowered slightly.

Kiera smiled brilliantly. “But he’s going to be my husband soon enough.”

“You haven’t picked a date yet, have you?”

“Well, no, but I was going to the Bridal Boutique today and calling Mark tonight to pick a day. He’s such a busy man and all,” Kiera blathered on with what she hoped was a moon-eyed expression.

“Mark?” Duncan repeated.

“My fiancé,” she clarified.

“Hm, what does this Mark do that keeps him so busy?”

Kiera thought fast. “He’s a Wall Street trader. He deals with the stock market and all. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know much about his work, but it’s the man I love, not his job.”

Duncan seemed to smile sincerely. “You said he was your one true love.”

“He is,” Kiera replied with a smile, although it was getting difficult. This lie was becoming elaborate and she would have to make sure she didn’t get caught up in her own lie. Not only that, but Duncan’s smile was looking more like a smile one would expect to see on a shark about to catch a fat, succulent seal. Not something you would expect from a guy who was realizing that he stood no chance at getting together with the woman he wanted. Perhaps this was where she should make her exit.

She drank what was left of her coffee and said, “Well, I better get at that shopping. I’ll see you around, Duncan.”

“I thought you were going to go shopping for your wedding dress tomorrow with my sisters,” he asked as she stood to leave.

Blasted man! “Well, yes I am. I’m actually not shopping for my dress today. Did I say I was going to? It’s probably because I just can’t wait to find my dress. People say it’s the most important part of the wedding. I’m just going to get my…” Kiera trailed off. Other than wedding gowns, the only thing the Bridal Boutique sold was bridal lingerie.

“Your?” he asked with an arch brow.

Brazen it out, Kiera told herself. “Lingerie. My bridal lingerie. Um, it’s the second most important thing about the wedding. You have to make sure it goes, um, with the wedding gown.”

An unholy gleam lit his eyes. “Well, then you must allow me to offer my services.”

“What?” Kiera squeaked.

“You know, to help you choose something nice for… Mark. I know you’ll hardly believe it, but I am quite the expert on lingerie.”

“I’ll bet,” Kiera muttered. He was a play boy, through and through. “I don’t think that will be quite appropriate.”

“Nonsense,” he exclaimed, standing to his feet, “You’re getting married soon. I wouldn’t dream on trying to seduce you or anything like that and even if I did, I’m sure you’d turn me down flat. Mark is the one true love of your life. I never even stood a chance!”

“Well, yes,” Kiera sputtered. “I mean, no. I mean, you didn’t stand a chance. I could never cheat on, uh, Mark. But-”

“But nothing,” he replied as he began steering her out of the café. “You wouldn’t imagine how many women pick out the wrong lingerie. I’m a guy; I know what guys will like. Don’t you want to pick something that will drive Mark nuts?”

“Uh, I guess so, but-”

Duncan held the door open for her. “Don’t worry. You don’t have to thank me.”

- - -

Kiera stood in the fitting room, which was a little bigger than a stall, gasping slightly for breath. She had exerted herself trying to get into the tiny white corset, skimpy panties and white frilly garters. She had entered the fitting room planning on not trying them one, but then realized it would give her more time to think about somehow escaping Duncan and this pricey boutique without spending her money on bridal lingerie.

Once Duncan had gotten her into the store, he immediately grabbed something from where it was hung and thrust her into the fitting room while charming the sales lady all at the same time. He had left her in here and gone to look for other things that might look nice. For that, Kiera was thankful, but she hoped the next item would be more her size.

The sales lady had come in for a brief moment incase Kiera needed assistance and had tied the ribbons of the corset like a lady’s maid from whatever century women had worn absurdly tight corsets. The lady had left then for Kiera to pull on the panties and the garters. Kiera managed then, but was now leaning against one of the walls, feeling slightly lightheaded. Her breaths were coming out like pants now and her skin was flushed pink. Soon her face would be as red as her hair. In the mirror, Kiera winced as she noticed she was practically popping out of the corset, from the top especially.

The worst part of it was she couldn’t reach the ribbon that would loosen the corset. She would need the sales lady’s assistance. “Miss?” she called out.

“Miss?” she repeated when no one replied.

“Is there a problem?” Duncan questioned, calm as can be from the other side of the door. This was all the blasted man’s fault! He was the one who had insisted he accompany her to try on lingerie and he had given her something that felt like it was at least two sizes too small.

“Duncan, call the lady,” she gasped.

“Um, I think I saw her talking to another customer,” he replied, there was no sound of movement. From sitting in the waiting room, he couldn’t possibly tell what the sales lady was doing in the other room.

“I need her, Duncan. Get her over here now,” Kiera panted.

“Okay, okay,” he muttered.

Kiera put a hand to her ribs as if to will sufficient air into her lungs. Why on earth hadn’t she stopped the lady when she had been strapping this contraption around her? Because she had wanted to see herself in the lingerie Duncan had chosen for her. Stupid, stupid girl.

There was a rustle to announce Duncan’s return. “I think she may have stepped out for a moment. I couldn’t find her.”

“I’m stuck and can’t open this from the back. I need her!”

“No need to shriek. I’ll help you,” he offered.

Kiera could just imagine the smirk on his face. She didn’t want to. There was no way he could see her like this. On the other hand, if she didn’t get out soon, she was going to pass out very soon. With a muffled curse, she yanked the door open to see a smirking Duncan leaning in the doorway. If she hadn’t felt like she was going to pass out, it would have been amusing how quickly the smirk disappeared.

Instead Duncan seemed to have frozen with only his eyes moving, roving over her body. He may have seemed frozen but his eyes were blazing hot as they took it all in and lingered. He made a rough sound, like he had been about to say something but his throat had dried up.

“Duncan,” Kiera huskily called out to him. She raised a hand toward him. “Duncan, I can’t breathe.”

With that said, her world started turning black and she began to crumble to the floor. Before she could hit the floor, she was pressed against him with his arms wrapped tightly around her. She felt the ribbon loosen and melt away under his hands. Kiera gasped for air and her lungs were filled with sweet, sweet oxygen. Slowly, the lightheadedness faded and Kiera was certain she was no longer in jeopardy of fainting.

She also became aware of the tension in Duncan’s body. Pressed up against him like she was, she knew his body was hard, all over. She lifted her and looked into Duncan’s eyes. It was like looking into molten silver. His pupils were dilated. His mouth was slightly open and now he was the one who was slightly panting. Kiera’s mouth dried as she realized she was in the arms of one very hot, very aroused man.

Without breaking eye contact, his hands slipped up the sides of her body until they were cupping her breasts. His thumbs brushed her already hardening nipples. Kiera felt a shudder of pleasure go through her. His hands rose to pull out the clip and pins in her hair until the silky red mass tumbled about her shoulders. His hands traveled back down until he put his hands under her shoulders and hauled her up onto a counter in front of the mirror.

The sales lady appeared. “I’m sorry. You can’t do that with the product-”

“I’ll pay double for it,” Duncan growled and slammed the door for the fitting room shut with his foot. The sales lady huffed and left.

“Duncan,” Kiera whispered.

He had already positioned himself between her thighs. His hands lingered on the garters for a moment and traveled upwards to caress her breasts. “Don’t even think about Mark,” he growled.

Kiera moaned at pleasure coursing through her blood. Duncan leaned forward and captured her lips. He thrust his tongue into her mouth and Kiera held him tightly. He took command of her body and her senses with his hands and tongue and pressed his member in the junction between her legs. His rough jeans rubbed against the soft skin of her inner thighs. Kiera delighted in the friction.

Desire set them both ablaze. Kiera tore away from the kiss and began yanking off his shirt, wanting nothing more than the feel of his naked skin against hers. Duncan tugged down the top of her corset and freed both of her breasts. With a groan, he sucked on into his mouth and Kiera arched against him and cried out. He devoured one breast and then the other. Kiera writhed against him.

“Duncan, please! Oh!” Kiera cried out again and unbelievably, she came. Never had she ever come so quickly. And just from him suckling her breasts!

Duncan didn’t relent. He removed her corset completely and tossed it behind him. As aftermath tremors rocked her body, Duncan’s hand slid to the white silk panties that were well on their way to becoming soaking wet. Using the slip of cloth for more friction, Duncan massaged her mound and rubbed her clit over and over again. Kiera’s body began reawakening before the tremors of her last climax had even stopped.

His gaze burned Kiera down into her soul and she couldn’t tear her eyes off of him. His fingers slipped past her panties and delved into her. She moaned, but still kept the eye contact. He wanted to watch her come again, wanted to drag her up that cliff again and watch her break into pieces while he held her against him. Kiera had other plans.

As his finger thrust in and out of her, Kiera unbuttoned and unzipped his jeans and found what she wanted most. Her hands explored his hot, hard member and he couldn’t contain his groaned. He thrust his finger harder, faster. Kiera felt her second climax building. She grabbed his hands.

“No! I want you. This time I want you inside of me. Please,” she begged, caressing him in her hands. She felt him jerk as her grip tightened.

He withdrew his finger and licked off her juices. “Mm, sweet.”

She shuddered. He shoved off the rest of his jeans. He peeled of her panties and pulled her against him. She wrapped her legs around and he laid her on the floor. Slowly, ever so slowly, he began entering her. His body straining and sweat beading on his brow, still he moved slowly, taking care not to hurt her. He was very well endowed, but Kiera was having none of it. She arched her hips against him until he was completely inside of her. They both groaned. They fit perfectly.

The last vestige of Duncan’s control snapped. He plunged in and out of her, hard and fast. He took her higher than she had ever been, until she was sobbing with pleasure and pleading for release. Then he stopped, his arms quivering from the force it took to not move while buried deep inside of her.

Kiera cried out in protest.

“Tell me you want me,” he demanded harshly.

Kiera gaped at him and arched against him. “Duncan, I think it’s pretty damn obvious I want you!”

“Tell me there is no fiancé.”

Kiera froze. “There’s no fiancé. Really, I made him up.”

“I know,” he replied. Grey eyes bore into hers. “I’m going to be your one true love.”

“What?” she gasped.

“I know, it’s still early yet, but I will be,” he told her.

Then without warning, he resumed pumping into her until she was screaming for release again. They came together as Duncan couldn’t hold back any longer while her inner muscles milked his release from his member. White hot pleasure washed over both of them in wave after wave, leaving them both weak and exhausted. He collapsed on top of her and she held him tightly. Neither of them moved for what seemed like hours.

From outside the fitting room, a woman’s voice exclaimed, “I’ll buy whatever she was trying on!”

Kiera’s senses returned and she her cheeks turned bright red. Duncan levered himself up on his elbows to look at her. Kiera’s eyes were wide and sparkling as a giggle escaped. Duncan felt a grin stretch across his face and soon, he was also laughing. He turned them both over so he was on his back with Kiera draped over him. He quite liked the feel of that.

Their mirth subsided and Kiera looked at him with a smile playing on her luscious lips. “So, do you have a habit of making wild claims about love during lovemaking?”

Duncan’s lips quirked as he said, “Let me reword that. Kiera, I was wondering if you would accompany me to dinner tonight?”

“I would like that,” she replied.

“And the night after that. And the then night after that. Oh, and the night after that.”

Kiera narrowed her eyes. “Duncan MacLean, are you by any chance trying to start a relationship with me? An honest to God relationship with commitment and fidelity and all the rest?”

Duncan laughed. “A relationship with commitment and fidelity and all the rest, yes, that’s what I want.”

“Don’t you think all of this is happening too quickly?” she asked.

He looked flabbergasted. “Woman, I have been trying to get your attention for nearly a month now!”

“Two and a half weeks!” she corrected with a laugh.

“Which is rounded up to three weeks and subsequently rounded up to a month,” he stated.

“It’s going to be embarrassing when we leave,” Kiera whispered.

Duncan gave her a wicked smirk and reversed their positions. He sank back into her. “I guess we just won’t leave.”

P.S. So the one thing that I hope never happens in reality, but ignored in my story is that no one really tries on lingerie in a store. Or if they do, it’s over their own underwear, but whatever. We can all just ignore that part of the story. Anyway, expect my next short stories to be around the MacLean family. And just to jump the gun on something I usually hear in reviews for my short stories, Yes, I am aware that I have not yet updated Tears of Blood and I will eventually get around to that. Not now, however, because I don’t want to. That being said, I hope you all enjoyed this story. Flawless Storm.
