Note from the author:
Gutentag, and salutations. Yes, finally a story instead of a simple poem. This story was inspired by a pair of my close friends going on and on about a particular anime show (which will remain anonymous) and demons. I, in turn, went haywire with artistic ideas in my head, as I am…an artist. Yes. Character concepts leave my fingers fidgeting for work.
Now, just a heads up; I update irregularly, and rarely. My muse comes as goes as it pleases, and if I’m busy, I’ll not be focusing on the story. However, I have every intention of completing it…one day.

Disclaimer:

A few characters are based upon my friends, while others are from my own twisted imagination. All names and places are mine, so don’t take them without asking me, or at least let me know what you’ve done. I’m a generous person when it comes to artistic liberty…

Summary:
The Elemental Guardians, great demons older than time itself, are anxious to exert their authority upon an unknowing realm; Earth. However, their particular target is not the only world in immediate danger; the very structure of all is in peril, and representatives from all over are determined to secure their safety, even if it means the destruction of the Earthen races.

Prologue

The tournament was not held very often. In fact, no mortal could remember the last rounds where the gong was tolled and the clash of weaponry and splatter of blood was audible and viewable to all those who cared…And many cared.

The tournament was aptly named the Tournament of Elements, for the demons who controlled it were the Elemental Guardians, great mystical women who gave birth to the gods and goddesses and were responsible for the very structure of the numerous realms. They each ultimately controlled the forces of nature, one to themselves, and bestowed the deities with gentler powers over them.

The tournament was not held very often. . In fact, no mortal could remember the last rounds where the gong was tolled and the clash of weaponry and splatter of blood was audible and viewable to all those who cared…

And many cared.

The tournament decided to fate of each realm; prosperity, or poverty. Order, or chaos. Triumph, or destruction. They tested their creations, their own ‘children’ as they referred to anything they had created and drew breath, and allowed them to show themselves at their greatest to the powerful mothers, and their weakest hours as well.

Why the Elemental Guardians chose to threaten the annihilation of their realms was simple unworthiness. Each time they destroyed the realm with the weakest representatives, they would create new realms to compensate for the lack of balance and allow the slate to be erased for all the victors from the last Tournament of Elements. Then, after seven losses, yet another realm would be doomed and face total destruction by their creators.

A cruel fate, but were not the elements themselves cruel? Life learned to live and die by the elements, and death was as natural as life, a decree that all recognized. There were tears shed for the loss of each world, but celebration for the new ones that would rise out of the ashes of the dead, fed by the energy left behind.

Thus, so it was, and would forever be.
