Miss Mosslands said I shouldn’t call people horrid names. I wasn’t calling people horrid names, Chris, I promise I wasn’t trying to because it’s nasty and bad and wrong and people get upset and Uncle Jesus will get upset and I don’t want Uncle Jesus to get upset because it’s not nice. So I sitted in the corner and talked to Uncle Jesus and we thinked and thinked and then we founded a question and that question is Chris, what’s a teacher’s pet? Peter called me a teacher’s pet but it doesn’t sound very nice because I don’t want to be Miss Mosslands’ pet, I want to be Uncle Jesus’ pet. I don’t mind because it doesn’t matter what Peter thinks, and I don’t want him to get Michael’s big gang. But what’s a teacher’s pet, Chris? I thinked I knew, Chrissy. I thinked I knew and I thinked he is called Martin.
He never talked to anybody and some people said he can’t talk. His eyes are big and brown like a little puppy and he just sits down and stares at me and he looks a bit scary. He must smell a bit too because Katy says he never took a bath in his life and his face is all dirty but he never plays in the mud like other dogs because his hair is only dark brown at the top and goes lighter at the bottom. Nobody ever stroked the teacher’s pet. But I thinked he wanted to be stroked, Chris. I thinked he’s sad because he got nobody to stroke him, not like I got Uncle Jesus. His face is always sad, except when he sees Peter. Then it goes all angry and scowly and growly just like a teacher’s pet. One day Peter called me a teacher’s pet and I let him but Martin ran shouted and kicked his shin. I thinked he wanted to be a teacher’s pet too. Then Peter got Michael’s big gang and they trapped me against the wall with horrible scowly, growly faces and big fists and I was scared and I asked Uncle Jesus to help me and he did, Chrissy, because Martin came and hit Michael and Michael started crying and he ran and got Miss Mosslands.
I tried to tell Miss Mosslands that Martin was only being a teacher’s pet, and then she telled me to stop calling people horrid names and maded us both stand in the corner. I thinked it was a funny way to say thank you, but Uncle Jesus says people are funny and you have to live with them, so I did. But I didn’t know if Martin was a teacher’s pet or not and that was me and Uncle Jesus’ question and I needed him to help me. So when I standed in the corner, Chris, I talked to Uncle Jesus again and we founded the answer: Martin is Uncle Jesus’s pet just like me and Michael’s big gang is all teacher’s pets. Then Martin stared at me with his big creepy eyes and I was still scared but I knowed he was just sad and needed somebody to stroke him, so I stroked his bushy hair. He smiled, Chris, and I knowed he wanted to be Uncle Jesus’ pet, I just knowed it because he smiled at me and I smiled back and he said “Thank you, Uncle Jesus” and Uncle Jesus smiled back.
