A/N: This is an updated version of my first one by the same name. This one doesn't have as much detail about her relationship with the father, but the writing is much better, or at least I believe it is. It is called a long poem. Stanza and line length are not important. This is the edition that I may be using for English class.
Teenage Mother
Muscles twitch as she slowly descends
Down to where her feet touch warm green carpet
Her slim, transparent hand clutches at her forehead
The dark room revolves around her
Everything becomes distorted and foggy
The books and shelves and dresser and bed
Shoes and clothing and makeup become confused
Blending together abstractly, melding into one another
All other thoughts flood as old memories take control
Memories from a childhood filled with change
Which had surrounded her and taken her on a new course
Making old falsehoods become the truth
What was once never dreamt of is now addiction
A complete conversion of life, of truth, of thought
Different days showing just how fast things can alter
Revolting new memories enter the landscape
Decisions made thoughtlessly have brought her here
Principles that she had once had have now been abandoned
And who she once was no longer exists, locked away forever
The want to go back, the need to turn around, has come too late
She had chosen this path and now on it she has to stay
Her eyes stay dry; it doesn’t matter now, so why cry?
There was nothing that the tears could fix
It wasn’t her eyes which were infected
But her mind; her messed up and contorted thoughts
Which had brought her moment by moment to this time
And to this place where she couldn’t bear to be
But she did because she had to, but not for herself
Her child was all she had, she couldn’t leave her
She stood her ground and continued to live
She was steady on foot as she walked to the crib
To pick up her baby and hold her tightly as she could
And stare at the fingers, so small, clutching tightly to her hand
To look at that face; so pure and full of new life
And at her small little lips and cute little nose, all perfect
At her precious tiny ears and her head with gentle curls
Then at her eyes glowing dark brown surrounded by milky skin
The eyes of the man, the one she had grown to love
And had given all of her remaining trust to
Loving him as no one else could
They would be together, she just knew it
Their love was just that strong
She had loved him then, loved him still
And when she was pregnant, at first he had stayed
Until his teenage mind made a huge change
Leaving her to take on a life of parenthood alone
So as her love, the one her heart belonged to
Was free to move on she was still stuck here
In this hell hole of an apartment, working minimum wage
Having had to drop out of high school just a month before graduation day
Now being both mom and dad for a kid who should have both
She stares into her child’s face and promises her love
That she’ll never let her baby end up the way she has
She brings her to her chest and rocks her back and forth
Singing the song her own mom used to sing
Of pure joy and fresh hope and of new beginnings
That ended just right with a perfect happily ever after
