The sweet aroma of freshly baked apple pie wafted into Rafeal’s nose. Rafeal loved apple pie. He loved apple pie more than anything else in his six-year-old world. He put down the Spiderman Action Hero he had been playing with and walked to the kitchen. He peeked around the door and saw the apple pie sitting on the windowsill to cool. Rafeal was hungry and he wanted apple pie. Grinning mischievously, the boy casually walked in, but before he made it more than two steps he heard his mother walking toward the kitchen so he slipped out before she would see him.
She was talking on the phone with someone, Grandma most likely.
“You’re baking an apple pie as well then? Alright, well we’ll have much more pie than we actually need,” she laughed at something Grandma said then added, “Well, it’s not like apple pie will go bad in this house!”
Rafeal couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation because his mother had walked back out of the room.
He grinned. “More pie than we actually need” sounded good to him. Just then a thought struck him; he could take care of the extra pie and be a super hero at the same time! The six-year-old boy’s over active imagination took over at that point. He would become The Pie Destructor… no that wouldn’t do, The Great Pie Destructor! That was much better!
Now that he had a name and super powers, he would need a costume so nobody would know his secret identity! He ran into his room and looked around. He grabbed his baby blanket, which quickly became a super hero’s cape and looked around for something he could use as a mask. Finding nothing that would do he had to improvise. He grabbed a blue felt pen and then a green one to make him look more superhero-like and looking in the mirror, coloured on his face. When he was done, to anyone else he looked like a six-year-old boy with felt pen scribbled all over his face, but to Rafeal, he was a superhero!
Rafeal was ready. Now that he was The Great Pie Destructor with super powers and a costume, he could come to the rescue of the citizens of the world!
He ran at super speed to the kitchen and scanned the room with his x-ray vision for his mortal enemy, The Evil Pie Monster. The super hero spotted the bad guy lurking on the ledge of the building, frightening the citizens of the city by threatening to turn them all into pie! He wouldn’t get away with such an evil crime! The Great Pie Destructor would see to that! Our super hero stood bravely behind the culprit and prepared for a fight.
“Evil Pie Monster! You won’t get away with this!” he said loudly, unable to think of anything much cleverer to say and prepared to dive at his enemy.
Just then, out of the corner of his eye he saw the one creature in the world that could give away his secret identity! The Cat! Smirking evilly, The Cat demanded “If you don’t give me some cream, I’ll tell all the world who you really are!”
The Great Pie Destructor’s eyes widened in alarm and he gasped, “You wouldn’t!” The Cat obviously wasn’t bluffing so our hero would have to give in to the fiend’s demand. Doing battle with The Evil Pie Monster would have to wait until he got The Cat some cream. He swiftly ran to the fridge while carefully looking around to see if anyone was watching. Good, no one was! He grabbed the cream and got a saucer from the cupboard. Filling it with cream he set it on the ground for The Cat. At once The Cat started to purr and to drink the cream. The Great Pie Destructor turned his attention back to his original evil enemy.
“Now to deal with you!” The Great Pie Destructor stated with authority. But before he could begin to do battle with his enemy, Rafeal heard his mother humming in the next room. He held his breath, praying that she wouldn’t come into the kitchen. Her humming grew louder as she got closer to the kitchen. He closed his eyes thinking that maybe if he didn’t see her come into the kitchen that she wouldn’t see him. The humming became quieter again as she walked away from the kitchen and Rafeal opened his eyes and slowly let out his breath. The Great Pie Destructor turned to face his enemy, The Evil Pie Monster. This time there would be no distractions!
The super hero lunged at The Evil Pie Monster, grabbing him by the neck and picking him up off the ground. Carrying The Evil Pie Monster, the hero ran to his room; a place where the citizens would be safe while the two of them fought.
Yet again the world would be safe from the wrath of The Evil Pie Monster! Quickly he changed back into Rafeal so nobody would know where The Great Pie Destructor had gone.
A while later the doorbell rang. Rafeal was feeling very bloated when he walked down the stairs to say hello to his Grandma.
The first thing that caught his eye was the huge apple pie in his grandmother’s hands. Rafeal smirked mischievously thinking, The Great Pie Destructor is back.
