Prologue
The tall grass brushed across her face as six year old Melody ran. It was almost as tall as her and hid all but the top of her head. It was perfect for playing hide and go seek and Quinn would have never found her if she had kept quiet, but now he was chasing her, trying to tag her so she would be “it”, and she was running for her life towards “base”, the tree with the tree house high in its branches.
“A, b, c, base on me!” Melody chanted the little rhyme as she touched the tree. She was safe now.
“Not fair!” Quinn panted.
“Let’s play again!” Melody said as she brushed her messy blonde hair out of her sparkling blue eyes. Quinn watched her and wondered if she was a real girl or an angel.
“Okay.” he said, and began counting again. Anything was better than going home…
