Stay
By "AriadneInLove"

“Stay!” I pleaded, for dear life,

for ages till I feared you gone.

I got fed up with, most of all,

the loneliness of this my heart.

Until, alas, I found myself,

All ears to this most courteous farewell.

And from despite my strict objection,

I found in my contempt all but rejection.

I tried to scream, to tell you off,

But your kisses told me naught.

You hid your purpose well, you fiend!

You stayed for me, my love.

And on this day you threw away,

into a sea of childish games,

those shoes you used to run from me,

from your fears, from your fate.

But my games would see no end,

These my mind doth play on me.

I feared you’d stayed not for me,

But for fear of emptiness.

So I tried to make you leave,

To where your heart would be content,

for mine could find no solace here,

lest I know for me you stayed.

And so I ran back to that sea,

Unbeknownst to me, away from thee,

To find for you those little shoes,

to give you back your liberty.

But while I swam from shore to floor,

to find this excuse, this dire escape,

You never left through all the gore,

Of a lonely girl’s lost confidence.

You loved me still, no matter what,

And with anchored feet did stand alone,

While my lonely heart did search,

Until I drowned in that first kiss.

But when I found nothing there,

My sadness made even this sad ocean weep.

And spit out in tears of glee,

Those shoes it stole from thee.

I ran back to this roof you built,

After time I stole from us,

And found that yes, a little death,

Could take you from my grasp.

I’m sorry, love, I did not care,

That my hypocrisy did not end well.

While I made you throw away,

those shoes in which you’d fly again,

Those wings about my heart made me,

The saddest, cruelest twist of fate.

They told me that you died of age,

Of waiting for my quest to end,

But I’ll always know not loneliness,

But this lioness’ endless quest,

Did finally steal your heart away.

I got consumed by this my sea,

By this fear you’d fly from me.

I wasted time, I wasted you,

I wasted the love we knew of so few.

And this roof did come down,

As did the walls of mine own tower.

The sands and seas that made this moat,

Got turned into a tear goodbye,

That I shed into a stream,

The sad remnant of loneliness.
