Summer…Most of us enjoy it. Some of us hate it. Well, this is all I can tell you: enjoy it while you still can. For you may lose it in a moment…or gain it for eternity.
What am I trying to say? Well, things should be treasured while they last right for you will never know if it will be your last time to see it…or one of the many times you will ever see it.
Immortality…glorious, isn’t it? Yet many shun it, for they believe that Death is a more preferable option but some take that path…a path that is hardly taken.
Let me tell you a tale…a tale that has been told time and time again. Some say it in a different way, while some say the original tale…but nonetheless; they are all the same…A story about the vampires, and their history.
When God created Man on the 6th day, He secretly created another breed of man but his duty was pure. They would be man’s guardians in the midst of the night. Yet time came when Man eventually realized that this kind was capable of enslaving them. And so the Dark Ages Came
However, one stood against Man. He was known as Alusitiu. Now, Alusitiu had no evil intentions. All he cared for was the safety of his people but as time passed, more and more of his race fell…And he was forced to retreat to the high mountains in Eurasia.
The Industrial Revolution came. The dark ones made their way back to the land, but they kept themselves hidden from others. And they created a small kingdom. The land was smaller than a modern day city, and in that kingdom lay the Blood Throne and whoever sits on the Blood Throne shall be the recognized leader of those who live under the moonlit stars.
But, alas, upon its completion most of them died. A famine had killed on most of them, and those left had to adapt to the situation. Without meat from fowl and swine, they resorted to blood…the blood of those who have fallen. And this is where it all began. This is where the idea of blood sucking vampires began. Do not tell me that they were always like that. No! They, perhaps, were even more sophisticated than man itself was.
Now, The Vampire bloodlines slowly closed away…and as we know it, only three of the Vampire clans remain. To Europe, the Aucatia clan. To Asia, Impervia. And to America, Nortune clan.
And I shall tell you a saddening bit about what happened next. The Aucatia clan was the most powerful for they were believed to be the direct descendant of Alusitiu and they believe that those of “imperfect blood” were not fit to rule their kind. And so they killed the Impervias and the Nortunes…and of them, only four remained. The two Impervias kept to themselves and hid away.
As for the Nortunes, they married men. And thus their bloodline survived but the blood was no longer true to it’s roots.
Now, I shall tell you the tale of one of the last Nortunes…His name is Eli. Eli Engelharst. And this is his tale…on how he discovered what he was.
Midnight Promises
Chapter 1
Yes, I’m only Human…
“Mr. Engelharst, Another D for your English…You better study if you want to skip summer classes” Eli’s teacher grinned
Eli scratched his head twice. He studied all right. He studied for twenty minutes while finishing his History paper while finishing that sketch for Art class. Eli was a bright mind. At the tender age of fourteen, his ideas already matched those of collegians. But he was quite lazy. He believed that you could never get anything out of the future. Rather, you should dwell on the present and the situation that you are facing.
He stood up from his chair, slung his backpack back and walked away out of the classroom.
“Got another D, I suppose?” A guy probably around his age tapped his shoulder
“Yeah, I suppose Ms.Ashburn just hated me. She should have burned me on stake” Eli replied
“Anyway, You up for some coffee after school? The guys and I were just talking about this new café down town.”
“Nah, I got so much to do…and besides, there’s nothing that’ll interest me there…I’ll drink there when I get to pass by, but right now I got class to attend to. I’ll see you later Sens”
He walked down the hall and observed others. The Goths were as always, frowning. The Jocks punching each other. Litle Miss Americas were still showing off their new bags from some European country. Everyday was just like that. But there was one figure that stood out against the Goths, Jocks, Miss Americas or anyone else: Isabel.
Isabel was of Asian decent. She has black closed eyes kind of like the Chinese but you still would know they weren’t. Her hair was of jet-black, a clip usually set her hair at the back. She had a fair Hispanic skin and was of normal body structure. But this was not the reason why she stood. She stood out because of something within her. It wasn’t beauty, it wasn’t kindness, it wasn’t gentleness: She already had those. She had AIDS.
Yes, AIDS. The Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. She was diagnosed with HIV when she was a child. She was one of those who got it through genetic mutation: No one in her family had it. And so this made her different. She was an outcast. She was rejected for a virus that could never harm others.
Eli stared for a while at her and he had forgotten that he was almost late. He saw Isabel enter a classroom, and he dashed of to his next class.
Four Fifteen. The bell has rung and the students rush off like a pack of wild animals. Eli lived only a few blocks away and didn’t need to ride the bus home. As he was walking, a Basketball hit the back of his head. He took the ball and looked back. Sens was there, along with his friends. Sens ran toward Eli and put his arm over his shoulder.
“I see you have an interest on people with AIDS now, eh?” He joked around
“And what if I do? What would you do, tell the whole school?” Eli furiously replied
“Wow, chill” Sens said, trying to cool down Eli “Nothing of that sort’s gonna happen around here. You know me. It’s just natural…too bad a beauty like her’s gonna go to waste. So why her?
“Will you just shut up! Sheesh…I’m only human”
Eli broke off and continued to walk back to his house.
