Long, long ago there lived a princess of great magical power. When the girl was still young, she was captured and taken to a far away castle. There, she was locked in the highest room of the tallest tower, guarded by a fire-breathing Dragon. After some time had passed, a prince was sent to rescue the girl. To the young man's surprise, when he arrived at the castle, the princess had fallen deeply in love with the Dragon and did not want to be taken away. No matter how many times he asked the princess to come with him, she refused. Eventually, the prince admitted defeat and left the castle forever.

On the day of their wedding, the Dragon was to present his bride a gift- a loyal servant. Only the best would be permitted to serve her, so a tournament would be held to find the one most deserving of this high honor. Five animal gods were chosen by the Dragon to compete in this battle of the century. Ookami, the wolf; Neko, the cat; Kuma, the bear; Kitsune, the fox; and Taka, the hawk.

When the tournament was over, the victor emerged from the battlefield of the world, with many innocent deaths behind him. The princess was forced to remove the memories of earth's people in order to keep the peace of the world. The princess made one fatal error. She erased the memories of everyone, even herself. No one could remember the winner of the competition, and therefore the princess had no servant to help her, and the animal gods had no master to guide them. The Dragon suggested holding yet another tournament to find the true winner, hoping that the same god would win. But there was no winner. The second tournament resulted in a draw between the five gods, and the death of them all. The Dragon felt responsible for their deaths, and so gave his life- his immortality to revive the spirits of the gods and his beloved princess once every thousand years. Grieving the loss of her true love, the princess killed herself to be with him once again, but because of the Dragon's spell, they were never reunited.

The spirits of the five gods and the princess now return in human form each millennium. They will fight to the death to find the one whom will serve the princess, and each time they make the same mistake. Never remembering, the princess will erase their memories, and those of the humans. This has been taking place for all of eternity and will continue until the true winner is found.

To stop history from repeating itself, you must learn from it.

To learn from history, you must remember it.

Every thousand years these beasts will slaughter one another in an endless battle with no outcome… Every thousand years the ‘chosen ones’ will be the bodies needed by the spirits of the gods to continue the fight… Every thousand years there will be death for no reason but to prove a point that will be forgotten… Every thousand years they will forget.

This is the legend of the five gods. And it is time, once again, for the beasts to fight. Who will win? Who will die? Who will be chosen by the spirits to share their bodies? And when will this legend end?
