I found a copper fishhook with your name on it.

I tucked it into my pocket with the really neat piece of asphalt.

And I wonder if this is what my sister used to bait you:

She always destroys her men when she’s through.

---

You were an awestruck young teenager,

I was a shy little girl.

I brought you home to meet my parents

But you were hypnotized by my sister’s greed.

---

You took her to dinner the same night you dumped me.

I nodded and pretended it didn’t hurt.

She got in late, far past curfew

Missing her bra and her hairclip.

---

I painted my room black and red

I traded my glasses for spikes

I chopped off my hair and I dyed it

Loud, bright colors to get on your nerves.

---

I went moshing with my new friends

I talked the talk and stalked the stalk

I practiced faking confidence

So I could look at you without shattering.

---

Two weeks later, she got you in bed

And you called me up heartbroken.

She mocked your inexperience

And dumped you during climax.

---

I waited until you had finished

Then said I didn’t care

You had better things to do than love me

So I’d found some of my own.
