A breach in the walls of Hesitation

In lethargy and frostbite wound,

A witness to my daily endeavour,

He came to me by trees festooned

For morning’s crispness to sever.

I looked upon him with a curious eye,

For early visits I could not expect.

So I enquired, “Why do you come so spry,

By he whom you should eagerly neglect?”

“You live by harmony and grace,

A golden shadow in the winter wind,

My heart, yet you cannot embrace

For in despair I have unduly sinned.”

“I have forgotten the wood trail to hope,

In labyrinths of leaves I shall not find,

My frozen life is not within my scope

And all I’ve found I cannot leave behind”

“So go, fly away from this roaming haunt,

This shadow of a man within the glade.

I can no longer sing, my throat is gaunt,

The shallow marsh of death I cannot wade.”

And in solemnity and care he listened,

That humble prince of the quiet forest lands.

Compassion and love in his eyes glistened

For he came to lie on my calloused hands.

And my spring bloomed inside my heart,

The snow meltèd, the ice was torn apart.

He sang to me the most melodious tune,

A lullaby in which to swoon.

His scarlet breast puffed with poetic joy,

So he bestowed me with a mellow gift,

That sense of faerie peace, a safe decoy,

In which my mind could gladly be adrift.

And when he left by the threads of first light,

A dream suffused inside,

Had that been a robin or a wood sprite,

Or an angel in whom I could confide?

He left and never did come back,

Yet his song still resounds afar:

To deep despair we must not tack,

Someone always loves us for what we are.
