Yesterday the doors all closed,
The flowers wilted quietly,
Serenity was banished far--
And Hope died last night.
Yesterday the chains grew thick
Like reigning trees that now were felled;
The lark cried out in mourning style,
And Hope died last night.
Yesterday the walls were built
So none outside could hear our call.
The people traded white for black,
And Hope died last night.
This morning I awoke to hear
That light forevermore was gone:
The sun was cast into the sea,
For Hope died last night.
