There was no way to tell
Just how this would hurt
I can only imagine the pain you felt
But I'm living the pain we feel now
They laid sleeping
As did we all
As you stepped out into the cold
Doing what none of us could've imagined
All the while I prayed for your strength
Wishing on every star that you'd see another day
Begging that you would want to see another day
And not dread the thought of suffering through another
They laid sleeping
As did we all
As you stepped out into the cold
Doing what none of us could've imagined
There was nothing we would've have done
Just to see you smile one more time again
I never thought someone so loved could never know
And step out into a cold night & do what you did
