Acceptance.

Don’t act like it matters

Don’t act like you care

You keep digging me deeper

Trapping me in your snare

Don’t make me important

Don’t let me believe

Watch those promises you weave

They’ll hurt more when you leave

Stop talking to me

Stop making me fall

Stop leaving me begging

Stop making me crawl

Stop making me love you

As much as I do

Stop being so wonderful

Making me wish “we” were true

Can’t you see how I hurt?

Knowing “we’ll” never be?

Just leave me in peace

Honor my plea

Erase it all from my mind

Please, just let me forget

Can’t you see how I suffer?

I almost regret that we met

Wanting you is like reaching

For wisps of smoke in the air

Never quite grasping

What isn’t really there

I’ve come to accept

That you’ll never be mine

But the world will keep spinning

The sun will still shine.

I’ll go on with my life

With my heart not quite whole

I’ll carry my despair

Forever, in the depth of my soul…
