The Classics

Auntie Em. Auntie Em.
This isn’t Bleeding Kansas, Toto.
And SURPRISE! Rose of Sharon’s pregnant!
Our farm will be taken away soon.
Let’s go say goodbye to Jay Gatsby.
The man never stopped looking at that darned
Green Light and the end of that Flapper’s dock.
Now there’s a man who stood his ground.
He didn’t run away from no war.
He got his own Red Badges of Courage.
Lt. Henry ran away with that nurse,
but boy oh boy! did she give it to him
in the end. (sad thing, really.)

Life is like a box of chocolates,
after you’ve been chasing a white rabbit
and painting the roses red. (i.e. hectic)
Maybe I can find that nice
Wilhelmina Harker and we can have brunch
underneath the tree that grows in Brooklyn.
She could invite that Dr. Jekyll and his friend,
Mr. Hyde. What a summer (reading) that would be.
