Butterfly

I planned again today
How I could find you
Somewhere in this big place
Among the sea of green and blue

I was in a sailboat in the summer
Riding the languid waves of the sea
And somewhere amidst the halcyon breeze
I saw a tall, white tree

As I sailed there, I saw you
Sleeping soundly in the shade
And on the blanket you laid on
Was a bottle of lemonade

I flew from the sailboat
Right then and there
I flew to you with resonant joy
And as I landed, I kissed your hair

You did not wake
So I laid myself beside you
Softly I held you close
As the sky was no longer blue

As we woke up the next morning
Underneath the cobalt sky
I whispered in your ear,
“I am your butterfly.”
