Trickling through the trees,

the sunlight dances.

A pebble falls from the breeze,

as I figure my chances.

-

I run my feet carefully

over the rugged edge.

As I say to myself a little pledge,

that at three, I will decisively

-

Throw myself off the ledge.

-

Having planned where to place my feet,

I plant myself and slowly breathe.

Counting aloud, one... two... three...

with a lunge, I am thrown from my seat...

-

I throw myself over the edge.

-

At first I close my eyes,

expecting the impact.

Below I hear cheers and cries.

It's then that I open my mind to the fact...

-

That I am free.

-

Looking down on the water,

my vision tilts back,

as the wind rushes past me harder,

we collide with a smack.

-

Gasping for breath,

surging back up,

I am numbed by the fall.
