Epilogue

“Miracle?” I looked at my daughter’s room and my brows made its way to my hairline. She said that she’ll only get something at her room but she’s not here. I looked at her bathroom and called her name again. “Miracle? Baby, where are you?” maybe, she’s at the master’s bedroom.

“Veronica?” I smiled at the man who peeped from the bathroom door. he still had some shaving cream at his face but he's still, no doubt, the most handsome man I’ve ever seen. “Miracle’s not here, love.” He came back to the bathroom, maybe to finish his shaving. “Maybe she’s out playing.” I shook my head and walked to the bathroom door and saw him wiping his face with a towel. I wrapped my arm at his stomach and leaned my cheek to his back.

“Honey, you should stop worrying so much for our child, she’s going to be fine.” He turned around so that he’ll eventually embrace me. “She’s as tough as her mom.” For the last eleven years, our life was great, not perfect but great. At first year of our marriage, Laura still doesn’t want to be part of our family anymore. But when Miracle was born, she had worked her magic at Laura and boom! She’s now there everytime she could just to see our little girl.

“She’s far brighter than she should,” I said as I placed my head at his chest. “And I love her so much.”

Jerry smiled and brushed my hair with his hand. “She has his father’s brain. It’s in my family’s genes.”

“Oh yeah? I taught her everything she knew, it’s not just about genes.”

“Honey, she’s a fast learner, just like me.”

“Mister, she wouldn’t know anything and she will not be a fast learner if I didn’t taught her at a young age.”

“Ha! That…”

“Mom! Dad! Where are you!!” I looked away from my husband and realized that our daughter’s home. she did went our and play. I kissed Jerry’s lips and smiled. “Peace man, our little angel’s back.” He laughed and brushed his nose to mine. Then we both walked to our bedroom door and as expected, our little girl came running to her father’s arms.

“So my little baby’s back.” Jerry said as he carried Miracle and kissed her cheek. “Where have you been little one? You’re mother’s worried about you and you didn’t told her where you’re going.”

Miracle frowned and looked at me with dark eyes so like my own. “I’m sorry, Mama, I’ll tell you where I’m going next time.”

Jerry caught my hand and he lead me to the terrace, Miracle still in his arms. When Miracle’s as excited like this, we knew that she has a long story for us. And it’s so great to listen to her and looked at the blue sky. We sat up on the bench, jerry catching my hand.

“Mama, I saw someone who looked like you.” She said as she nodded and found a comforting place at her daddy’s leg. “She’s crying so hard and I made her smile. And I told her the only time I cried, I told her that I cried because Paul gave Lita flowers…”

Jerry met my eye as he brushed his other hand to the hair of his daughter. He gave me a smile that said ‘I know this story’ but I only smiled and leaned my head to his shoulder. My daughter went on and on at her story as I thanked God he had brought her to our life.

When Miracle’s story ended, she asked permission to go out and play with Paul and LIta. She did cried when the boy next door gave flowers to the girl next next door but she still plays with them. A child forgives easily and I knew that she’ll have that virtue until she grow up.

“How did that happened?” Jerry met my eyes and I remembered the first time I saw the dark eyes of our baby girl nine years ago, and I knew, right on the spot, who had given me happiness. Jerry was shocked when I told him that the little girl who had saved our relationship is right there in my arms.

“I don’t know how she came back in time, Jerry, but now I know that miracles do happen.”

“God really wanted us to be happy, Veronica, so He had sent an angel to help us.” Jerry closed his eyes as if he’s saying a little prayer of thanks.

“I love you, Veronica.” He opened his eyes and kissed my lips. “I love Miracle and I’ll never stopped thanking her at what she’d done.”

I wrapped my arms to his necked and whispered. “She’ll always be our miracle, Maybe she doesn’t know what she had done yet but if not for her, maybe we’ll never be together.” I sighed and said. “Maybe we’ll tell our story to her when the time comes.”

“Maybe.” He said as a sily grinned formed on his face. “How about a little brother for Miracle?”

“This time, he’ll have blue eyes.” I said as I leaned and kissed his lips.

Nine months later, Little Steve was born.

And yes, he had his father’s eyes.
