Eyelashes flicker…

Gaze rises…

Electricity…

And for a momentary eternity…there was…

Walking down a drab white hall, the stern clicks of shoe heels could be heard.

A young woman of medium build with short mahogany hair entered the room at its end.

Dressed in a clean cut suit, fashionable, but made to impress, the young woman’s presence demanded attention.

“Ah Alasea, welcome, were you pleased with the edits to your newest addition?” A kind woman asked cheerfully of the woman entering the room, gesturing for Alasea to take a seat.

“I am, thank you Rachael. You’ve done yet another spectacular job. Will the piece be released anytime soon?” Alasea asked the other woman, sitting down. Her gentle smile belied her overall appearance of hauteur.

“Of course, it’ll go to press in about a week and will be on the shelves in about two weeks after that.”

“Great! Thank you so much Rachael. You’ve been so important to my career.” Alasea stood up to shake Rachael’s hand.

“As you are to mine.” Rachael shook back.

“Well, I’ll be sure to stop by to see the hard copy before it heads out as usual, alright?” Alasea asked on her way to the door.

“Of course, of course, as always!” Rachael exclaimed while waving farewell.

Walking out of the door Alasea walked a few paces, her hazel eyes aglow with pride. She couldn’t contain her joy. Stopping for a moment of silent praise and prayers to God, she then continued on her way.

On her way back to her apartment in New York, an old friend of hers called and arranged to meet up with her at a new club called “Violet Iris”. Apparently it was doing great for a new club, appealing to the new age techno and singers, this was a place for artists to get their work to the populous.

Going up to her room she placed her keys on the door side table, she went to her living room. It was lonely here. It’d been a while since she’d been in a relationship, had been a while since she’d shared time with another in her place. And coming home to it now, it felt empty.

Walking to her computer desk she took a look at her AIM and MSN messages, thinking of all the people she’d met. All of the friends that she’d made. And for the select few she’d chanced to meet. In fact one of them happened to be the friend who’d just called her earlier.

Staring whimsically at her desktop, Alasea became lost in her memories, especially her fondest ones…how she missed that voice…closing her eyes, she could hear it. The old familiar song working its way around her heart and the beat flowing through her soul.

Rudely she was pulled from her revelry by the high pitched tones of her cell.

“Hello…ok, hi Josephine…sure…at the corner of North and West…at seven…alright…a surprise…ok…see you soon.”

Putting her phone down softly, her smiled. Josephine had helped the memory…humming softly, she went to her room to change for the club.

Hailing a cab, she headed for the corner of North and West Street. On the way there the words to an old song, Winds Nocturne, played in her mind. It reminded her of so many things, of so many people.

“Yuki…” She whispered unconsciously.

“Ten bucks, Ma’am!” Erupted the rough voice of the driver, disturbing her from her musings.

Handing him his money, she got out and waited for Josephine. The club was only a block away.

“Hey! Alasea!” Yelled a dark young woman running up to her. Here was one of her best friends Phina. She was dressed in a dark blue jean skirt, and a dark green halter top, with spiked heels to match.

“Hey, Phina!” She waved back and ran to hug her.

Pushing back Alasea to hold her at arms length, Phina looked her over. “Cute! I’m loving the leather black mini, and the off shoulder burgundy top…nice…perfect too…and those boots…You look perfect.” Phina took Alasea’s hand and pulled her quickly in the direction of the club.

“Perfect for what?” Alasea yelled, trying to keep up with the fast pace of her friend as best she could in her shoes.

Phina stopped abruptly at the end of a line that led to the door of the club and looked back at Alasea. “Oh…nothing, I’m just saying you’re perfect.” She said cryptically with a wink.

With a confused look Alasea adjusted her clothing to how it had been before she’d been unceremoniously dragged a block by her friend.

It wasn’t long before the two were walking through the entrance to the club and welcomed by a violet glow and a fast pace beat by some unnamed artist. Josephine took Alasea’s hand again, and guided her around the part of the room with the tables near the dancing platform. Each table adorned with a vase filled with Iris’s. Before them at a similarly dressed table a blonde, young man stood up and pulled out two chairs.

It was Josephine’s fiancé Torrance Lenorad. He was quite a looker; both Phina and she had known him for quite sometime. It was about time the two planned to make their relationship official.

“Hey, hun, how are you?” Torrance yelled above the music leaning in for a quick kiss.

Kissing him, Phina smiled “I’m fine, everything all set?” She yelled back.

“Of course.” He smiled.

“What’s all set?” Alasea felt left out.

“Nothing, we’re just talking about wedding plans.” Phina brushed the question off.

“Here are you drinks.” Announced a waitress, handing them the drinks Torrance had ordered for them.

“Hey, how you been Alasea? Been seeing anyone lately?” Torrance yelled turning to her.

“No! Sadly, I’m still single.” She smiled good naturedly; she knew Torrance really cared if she was happy.

Giving a suggestive look to Torrance, Phina took his hand and pulled him up. “Sorry Alasea, I need to dance with my fine piece of man, will you be ok alone?”

“Sure, you two go on and have some fun.” Alasea waved them off.

Sitting there she just swayed to the music, envying her friend, her happiness. Alasea had her dream of being a writer…but what else did she have…no one to share it with.

Drifting off to her own world, she missed the announcement of another singer coming on stage. All she could see was Josephine and Torrance getting close for a slow dance.

Closing her eyes, she tried to avoid the envy. But the opening beat to the background music brought her eyes wide open, and her heart to a stop.

Seeing her two friends dancing did nothing to her, as sweet as it was, she couldn’t see them…she was lost in the music…she’d heard it before.

“Been a long road to follow”

That voice…

“Been there and gone tomorrow”

She knew that voice…

“Without saying good-bye to yesterday”

Eyelashes flicker…

“Are the memories I hold still valid?”

Gaze rises…

“Or have the tears deluded them?”

Electricity…

“Maybe this time tomorrow”

And for a momentary eternity…

“The rain will cease to follow”

There was…

“The mist will fade into one more today”

… “You…”

“Something, somewhere out there keeps calling me”

Heart beat accelerating…

“Am I going home?”

Tears welling up.

“Will I hear someone singing solace to the silent moon?”

Lips trembling…

“Zero gravity, what’s it like?”

Hands shaking…

“Am I alone?”

Can’t breath…

“Is somebody there beyond these aching feet?”

Walking down from the stage…A dark man approached…his voice reaching out.

“Still the road keeps telling me, to go on…”

Walking closer through a crowd the ceased to exist…

“Something is pulling me…”

Eyes connecting…

“I feel the gravity…”

The only ones in existance…

“Of it all…”

Strange…in a room filled with people… not a sound could be heard…beyond the beating of two hearts… Not a vision could be seen… outside the eyes that locked in time…

“Kale…” Whispered the woman whose heart was forever owned…

“Alasea…” Answered the man who owned that heart…

“How…?” Tears slipped down.

“It doesn’t matter.” The tall dark man called Kale pulled her from her seat and hugged her close… “All that matters is that now I know what I want…”

“What you want…” She echoed…stunned…

“Yes.” He laughed and rested his forehead against hers smiling softly and whispered… “And I want you.”

Alasea’s eyes widened…her heart skipped a beat…and tears flowed. Trembling lips questioned, “Really…for real, really?” She managed to get out.

“For real, really!” He laughed and hugged her tightly swaying with her.

Wrapping her arms tightly about Kale, Alasea clung to him, crying in happiness…here he was, the voice from her memories, the only voice she could never forget, and he was hers.

Looking up at him with hot tears turning her eyes from hazel to emerald, she smiled… “So you really, really want me?”

“Gah! How many more times do I need to tell you?” He joked mussing up her hair, and holding her face between his hands. “I really want you…is that enough or do I need to tell you a million more times?”

“A million more times and one” Alasea smiled up at him, her eyes shining with happiness he knew he’d created in her.

“Alright…a million more times and one…but no more, got it!” He leaned closer…

“Got it…” She whispered closing her eyes…and finding a whole new heaven in his lips.

“Finally! They’re together” Josephine exclaimed to Torrance from the dancing platform, looking at her two best friends who were smiling like fools.

“I know, took them long enough.” Torrance agreed. “But then… maybe… sometimes… time is all that’s needed…for two people to realize just how much they need each other…

“…Maybe…”Josephine laughed, so happy that finally, her two best friends…had found happiness with each other.
