Winter Cried

by fabian cortez

As winter wails its

Disappointment to our

Spoils, I feel loathe to find

An upturned lip

For anything, but

A sneer, to sticky

Crimson soil

-

I see, through mottled glass

Foreboding greying hue

A world of jealousy

Of sweat & tears, to

Bended knees, so cold

& heartless words ensue

To scold, yet nothing’s said

When right’s involved

-

Expected is a phrase

Of choice, whenever

Voiced a thought

Enticed, of comfort

Or attentive verb

Excuses fly in

Tone to curb

-

A mask of righteous

Intonations, inflict such

Lies & devastation

As millions all about

They play, & play &

Play & play & play, incline

Each others hearts away

Too blind to witness what

They know

-

They see with eyes that

Shield a glow, of truth

That’s hindered from their

View, deliberately,

Yes, by themselves

They fear they’d end

Up on the shelf

-

Yet lovers are not all

At play warmongers, fight

To have their day, see

Slaughter, soldiers

Children too, collateral

Damage, me

& you

-

Power hungry, what a

Game as up the ladder

Life’s the same, different

Stakes, than home control

Players ready, reach your

Goal, dominion of the

Unprepared, death to all

Out running scared

-

A cost so easy to accept

After all as people slept

Across the globe still millions

Sighed, rifles sang &

Winter

Cried
