WHAT IS BEAUTY?
For Windin
By Thanh Dinh
She smiles gently to avoid stretching her skin
“With stretch marks so evident, I can never win”
She wears dull shades to fool the eyes
“Bright colors can’t cover up lies”
She consumes the dust, and chokes on society
“Mind you, my Gucci apparel defines beauty”
With an impure exterior, she can never secure the race
“I can be 25 forever with cream on my face”
She covers her legs to hide her thunder thighs
“My inner characteristics is an insignificant side”
With a fabricated grin, and a shiny shell
“I am beautiful, can’t you tell?”
--
Beauty was found, but now cautiously misplaced
A stranger emerged, and a soul erased
What is beauty? Where does it dwell?
Inside a castle, or in the chambers of hell?
If her heart glows with humanity, is she sublime?
Or must her chest be large, and her body refined
--
She feeds the poor, and guides a blind woman down the street
“Helping others is how you succeed”
She retains grungy shoes, and a deficient dress
“I am not as dull as my exterior suggests”
Her eyes weaken the world, and her teeth makes one gag
“Money for the homeless, the elderly, and those with no legs”
She is a goddess, despite her devilish appearance
“Smile and you might give life to a cardboard existence”
--
Beauty may not be apparent, but surely it is there
One must dig it up, if one bothers to care
Once beauty is found, clutch and never release
For a gentle twitch can arouse the aroma of a beast
Everyone embodies beauty, even the most unfortunate girls
They just don’t disguise their beauty with diamonds and pearls
