Heartbreak can't compare
To when the sunlight hits the air
Losing San Francisco in the haze
Of nicotine and lemons.

When the sun rises every shade of red
Blame the beauty on the lead
Of hearts strung out on clotheslines
And the chemicals in the basement.

Dark clouds can haunt the days
Because the rain won't raise
A hand to give you one
When the paramedics fail.

But this life's a glorious life
So brace yourself for the crash
course in optimism,
'cause California's rash
ain't contagious.
