What's so entertaining?

Never did the mention of something make me shiver as this does. Never did anything fill me with such disgust. What you may ask could bother me so much. It's the thing that has black people all over glued to their tv. Yes ladies and gents its BET. For years this insult to black people has been plaguing us. First of all we as a people can not want to be accepted and treated like others, then walk around saying we have a channel just for us, that plays nothing but “black programs” There are some things in life that should just be ours and for our people, but BET is done so wrong that it should in no way be thought of as that thing.
I was asked by a white friend of mine why I hate the channel so much. That conversation was one of the main things that lead me to writing this. Id like someone to name something BET has done good for blacks. If you take the time to think about it, its a very small list of things, if your even willing to call it a list. Black people have a channel that they call their own and we dedicate 30min to news. This is the saddest things iv ever seen. Do you understand how much is going on in the lines of health, achievements, disasters, and so on in the black world and we feel 30min to try and pack most of it in is all that is needed?
She then replayed “i never thought of the channel to be something that should uplift black people, but atleast they show the church programs on there.” I held my head so low when i herd that. This is what its come down to? We are no longer willing to leave our homes and take the time to gather and pray and hope as one. Adults sit in front of the tv and watch and sing the songs as if knowing the words makes what they are doing better. Im in no way saying being at church is the only time one should or can pray. However Adults if you don't feel like taking the time to get the family together to spend a mire two hours together at church then don't walk around wondering why your kids are the way that they are.
Im one of the few kids that don't watch BET. When I tell people this I get looks as if iv committed some type of sin. All black people watch BET is now as much as a stereo type as all black people eat chicken and watermelon once was. Is this something I should be proud of? White people no longer make up the stereotypes for us, we make them up for ourselves and following them like some mindless sheep.
Black entertainment television. Im far from entertained by the mindless programs being fed to Black teens. One music program after the other. Over and over again we see nothing, but images of Drugs, cars, jewry, half naked men and women, and money. BET find a better way to entertain the kids you know for a fact are watching. Dancing around like dummies in a club are far from what black people are all about yet this is what 90 of your programming is showing us doing. Then they have these good awful “comedies” they play at night. I really can't find anything funny about these shows. E.g. The Parkers. Mr. Parker was a woman going to school to better herself with a child who was perceived at dumb as a rock. Why in Gods name would people tune in and laugh at that as if it was funny? Can we make something that isn't a comedy for once? I want anyone reading this to really think hard and try think of any show with black people that isn't a comedy. That's a list of what, five shows? So let me see if im getting the message right. Black people are only good for a laugh?
Im not going to sit here and try to force anyone to share my views. I just want blacks to think before the next time they watch BET. Show that you are smart and read up on Robert Johnson who started BET. When you read about things he has done maybe your eyes will open and you will see that BET was never really meant to be something to uplift black people. It could have been something great. I could have been here now trying to talk people into watching it rather than doing my best to talk anyone I come across from even saying its name. Stop thinking of it as just something to entertain you and demand that it becomes something that it should be. Something that educates and uplifts you.
