“Rejection”

By: R. Q.

Everyone else climbed,

The Mountain, what should

Hold me back?

Countless obstacles,

I never even passed.

Never did I beat the mountain…

I see the climbers who were ahead of me,

Are finished and now climbing

Down.

They’re done and ready to face,

The challenges of life ahead,

I’ve been trying my very best,

But they’ll still look at me,

As the slow, stupid, and ignorant little kid.

Still do they know?

Of the struggle to keep my hand grasping the ledge?

Still do they understand?

Of the trouble to reach a point to set camp and sleep,

(Or the trouble to recognize that point where I set camp and sleep)?

I may want…

To give up…

But I will never…

Give up.

I believe it…

An honor to be…

Able to keep my best hold…

On that ledge and life and so…

I will never give up.

“They reject me from society,

One day I grow old,

Sick and weary,

Still I keep my best hold.

But when my grip,

Weakens from the rock,

They come to bring me back down,

To try to nurse me back to health.

They say “Forget the mountain,

Just have the best life you can.”

But from society they rejected me,

And I will reject,

Their medicine…
