Sleep

When I sleep at night I can be free

From all the pain my eyes will see

I dream of places far and wide

Where all is safe and no-one hides

I walk among the people there

And nobody stops or stares

They all go about daily chores

There is no need for police or laws

All is well no pain is felt

No crimes committed, no punishments dealt

This truly is a land of calm

Where nobody is ever harmed

I wake up the light is dim

I open my eyes and the world closes in

I try to fight and beat it back

But the strength I need I lack

I walk among the people here

All the people stop and stare

They point, they laugh, they hit, they mock

Around me like a herd they flock

I walk away they follow me

I am the freak, a target they see

They hunt me down, I am their prey

It is like this everyday

Eventually we all escape

But for me it is too late

For the only thing I can see

Is this world of misery

I can't take anymore

From this world I bar the door

I lie down I cry I weep

Eventually I'll fall asleep

When I sleep I can be free

From all the pain my eyes will see

I dream of places far and wide

Where all is safe and no-one hides
