The remaining drive to the airport was silent. Shane drove and they all had sunglasses on to protect their eyes from the onslaught of wind due to the missing windscreen.
"I'm sorry that I didn't listen to you Kelly, it was just hard for me to believe that someone was still after us." Kathleen said to Kelly as they got into the airport.
"I know, Kathleen." Kelly said, not really meaning it.
They boarded the plane, sitting awkwardly the whole way, Kathleen and Kelly at separate ends. They got off the short flight to Sydney and left the terminal, waiting outside for a taxi.
"Kelly, what's the matter? I said sorry." Kathleen said, confronting Kelly.
"Nothing's the matter." Kelly replied, not looking at Kathleen.
"Then why are you mad at me?" She asked, standing right in front of Kelly.
"You wanna know why I'm mad at you? Because you treat me like I'm a child! I try to tell you that we're being followed and you say that I'm just paranoid."
"I said I was sorry."
"Oh yeah, I remember that. That was right after we almost got killed by those crazy guys who had been following us!" Kelly yelled the last part then stormed off angrily, not giving Kathleen time to reply.
"Should I go after her?" Kathleen asked, unsure of what to do.
"No, I'll go." Said Shane. Carlina stopped him though.
"Maybe we should split into two groups. I'll take Kathleen to my friends place and you and Kelly can go somewhere else. We'll be harder to track that way." Carlina Instantly dragged Kathleen off towards a taxi.
"We'll keep in touch." She called out over her shoulder to Shane. Shane just shook his head and took off after Kelly.
Davante sat down at his desk and surveyed the men in front of him.
"They have split up." He said flatly. "Do you know what this means?" He asked coldly. The men were silent.
"It means that you will all have to work harder to get them. They have thwarted every attempt because you are all useless." He slammed his fist on the table as he spoke, his eyes flashing in anger. "Go find them, bring them here alive or dead, I don't care, just get them." He stormed out the room and slammed the door. The men just looked at each other and stood up shakily, if they failed this they were dead.
"It is better for you two to just be separate for a while, you'll both have time to cool off and we will be harder to find in two groups." Carlina explained to Kathleen as they walked up to Carlina's friend's door. Carlina knocked and looked back at Kathleen.
"Be nice." She said sternly as the door opened, revealing a tall, pale vampire.
"Carlina!! It's been too long!" They hugged, and the vampire invited them in.
Carlina looked over at Kathleen and pulled her forward.
"Jessy, this is Kathleen, a friend of mine. Kathleen this is Jessy." Kathleen forced a smile and shook Jessy's hand.
Carlina and Jessy were sitting in the small, dingy living room of Jessy's tiny house, laughing about their past. Kathleen took this time to survey Jessy, she was a typical vampire, perfect body and unnatural beauty. She had blonde hair and bright blue eyes, 'Typical,' Kathleen thought. Eventually they got onto the subject of how Carlina had gotten away from Davante and what had happened after that.
"So then we ended up here, looking for somewhere to hide out." Carlina finished.
"I always knew you'd come crawling back here, looking for somewhere to hide." Jessy joked.
Carlina looked at her seriously. "Jess, if you don't want us to stay we'll go, I don't want you to get hurt."
Jessy just laughed and looked at Carlina fondly. "You underestimate me, even if someone does come, I can take care of myself. Now, who's for some dinner?" Jessy jumped up happily, gliding gracefully into the kitchen.
Shane finally caught up to Kelly. He just walked next to her, staying silent.
"Where are the others?" Kelly asked softly after a while.
"Carlina thought it would be better if we split up, harder to track that way." Kelly just nodded at his answer. For a while they just walked in companionable silence, no real destination.
"So, where are we going to go now?" Kelly asked quietly. Shane sighed and stopped walking, sitting down on a bench.
"I don't know, we will probably have to find a hotel to stay at." Kelly paused for a moment then sat down beside him on the bench. They sat on the bench for a while, Kelly looking out into the parking lot of the airport and Shane struggling not to look at Kelly. Suddenly Kelly stood up, turning to look at Shane.
"Well then, we better be off, it'll be dark soon." She smiled at Shane and began to walk off. Shane sighed inwardly and stood, following her into the dusky parking lot to get a taxi.
