Ray Gun
光 線 銃
Episode 1: Resident Outlaw
Early one morning a man named Ray was sleeping in his bed. The morning sun shined through the window.
“Ray get out of bed!” his father yelled.
Ray lifted his head off the pillow and reached for his glasses on the night stand next to his bed. He rubbed his eyes before putting his glasses on.
“Morning all ready?” he asked.
Ray got out of bed and got dressed for school. He wore long kaki pants and a buttoned up shirt with short sleeve shirt underneath. Ray walked down the stairs with his backpack strapped on his left shoulder.
“Have fun at school today.” His father said.
Ray mumbled as he walked out the door and waited for the bus. On the bus ride to school Ray sat by him self. He’s always sat by him self from the beginning. At school, he is part of the science club. His father is also a scientist and encourages him to branch out into different fields of science. The only time he has any social life at all is at the science club where even there he hardly even talks to any one. Not only is he not very social but he has super intelligence. Ray doesn’t have many friends except for the worst loser you could find. Not even any of the other geeks want to be caught talking with him. They feel stupid and feel like they don’t even deserve to be in his presence. The other geeks at his school like to call him “Dork A” or class “A” dork.
Appearance wise, he is very thin and tall. He wares glasses which are very small but suit his vision. Ray is nineteen years old and is a senior in high school. Ray sighed as he got off the bus and walked towards the school. His friend Chobi was waiting for him on the front steps eating some corn bread he got from the school cafeteria. He waved over to Ray as he tried to hurry and stuff his face.
“Hey Ray!” Chobi yelled as he waved with food coming out of his mouth.
Ray sighed and walked right passed him without giving as much as a “hello”. Chobi was the only one who recognized him as a compete genius. Ray would much prefer to have other people around him besides his only so called “friend”.
“Hey why did you run out on me?” Chobi asked.
“I told you before to stay away from me.” Ray said as he got his books out of his locker.
“But Ray you’re my idol I worship you!” Chobi proclaimed as he bowed down before him.
Ray headed to class and realized that this was going to be long day. He sat down in his desk. He looked over and a few rows down he saw the only girl he really liked. She was the kind of girl that respected every body. Her name was Naomi Rescola. She was petite blonde about 5 feet tall. Ray just sat there and stared at her. His friend Chobi sat down next to him.
“You’re staring at her again aren’t you?” he asked.
“Hey who asked you!” Ray yelled.
“Why don’t you just go over and ask her out.” Chobi told him.
“Are you kidding she’ll never go for a guy like me!” Ray replied incited.
“May be I should go over there and tell her how much of a god like genius you are.” Chobi responded.
“Then I’ll do it.” Ray said as he walked over to her.
Ray got out of his seat and walked over to her. He was really nervous. Chobi sat there and watched his every move. Sweat began to come down his face.
“Uh Naomi?” Ray asked.
“Oh hi Ray.” Naomi said with a smile.
Chobi watched without blinking for a moment. Ray stood there trying to find the words to tell her but they didn’t come out of his mouth.
“Did you want to tell me some thing?” she asked him.
Ray put his hand behind head and laughed. Chobi’s eyes bulged and couldn’t believe that he didn’t ask her.
“Uh nothing really it kinda slipped my mind.” Ray said laughing as he headed back towards his seat.
Ray sat down at his seat and took a breather. All of a sudden he felt Chobi’s hand whack him on the back of the head.
“You idiot!” Chobi yelled.
“OW, what was that for?” Ray asked him.
“You were supposed to ask her out!” Chobi screamed at him.
“Hey it’s not as easy as it looks.” Ray said rubbing the back of his head.
Later that day Ray attended one of the science club meetings. He sat there bored out of his mind. He practically knew all of the stuff they were talking about all ready. They were discussing how the future would be beneficial to cloning. The leader of the group turned his attention over to Ray.
“Mr. Ray don’t you have any thing to add to the conversation?” he asked.
“No not really.” Ray replied.
“The meeting is over for now but we’ve all decided that you would be our group representative.” The leader told him.
“What for?” Ray asked.
“We would like you to interview Dr. Valcuin who’s been researching cloning and has even made a formula for possible human cloning.” The leader said.
“Yah I’ve heard of him my dad has connections with that guy.” Ray replied.
Then he realized he shouldn’t have said it. Damn it he thought. Now I’m going to be the group representative for sure. Why did I have to go and open my big mouth he thought?
“That’s perfect you’re the best choice for sure.” The leader said.
“Ugh.” Ray sighed in disbelief.
“We would like you to write a paper for us in our next column for the school news paper about his findings.” The leader said. Then he added “We’re all counting on you.”
“Just what I needed to hear.” Ray said as he held his head in incredulity.
That afternoon Ray came home and his father was waiting for him.
“Hi Ray how was school?” he asked.
“Same old same old.” Ray said as he rested his backpack against the stairs.
Ray walked over to his father who was reading the paper at the table. Ray decided to take a seat.
“Dad you know Dr. Valcuin right?” Ray asked.
“Sure do; that man is a genius almost like you.” Ray’s father said.
“Do you think you can get me an interview with him?” Ray asked.
“Sure thing why didn’t you just say so I’ll call him up right now.” His dad said as he reached for his cell phone.
Ray had no clue who the guy was and he was going to be asking him questions. Ray only happened to hear his dad talking about him one day. He knew all the research development that went into cloning but he never read any thing of Dr. Valcuin’s research on cloning. This was going to be a long night he thought as he decided to make him self some coffee. After he made him self some coffee he reached into the cabinet and grabbed some beef jerky. Ray practically lived on that stuff. That was one of the few foods he would eat. His father didn’t have time to cook dinner since he was very busy as he was a scientist after all. Ray saw some of Dr. Valcuin’s books on clone research that his father had in the library and decided to have a look at them. He couldn’t believe all of the theories and the step by step genetics that showed every detail on how cloning was done. Of course, this was only the beginning. Ray had more to discover and more to bargain for.
The next morning came and Ray was fast a sleep. He overslept since he stayed up reading almost all of Dr. Valcuin’s research. His father walked into his room.
“Ray get out of bed you’re going to be late!” his father yelled.
Ray lifted his head off the soft pillow and reached for his glasses on the night stand next to the bed.
“Morning all ready?” he asked
“Don’t forget you got an interview with Dr. Valcuin remember?” his father reminded him.
“Interview?” Ray asked replying sleeplessly.
Ray’s eyes were all blood shot looking but not from sleeping. He stayed up most of the night studying and drinking too much coffee. Ray slowly got out of bed.
“I’m coming, I’m coming.” He mumbled.
Ray went to his dresser to look for some clothes. He looked inside the dresser compartments and realized he had hardly any clothes left except for some clean socks and underwear. Ray saw some plain looking clothes resting at the end of his bed. He put them on and realized they were scientist clothes. A sweat drop poured down the side of his head in bewilderment. He leaned half way out of the room and yelled “Do I have to ware these scientist clothes?”
“All of your clothes are in the washer!” his father responded.
Later that morning Ray arrived at the city lab. Dr. Valcuin awaited him there since he received so much praise from his father.
“Ah you must be Dr. Gun’s boy.” Valcuin said.
“That’s correct sir.” Ray replied with a sigh.
“Shall we take a look at some of my inventions before we get started?” Dr. Valcuin asked.
“Sure I guess.” Ray said.
Ray followed the doctor down the hall. The illuminant lights shined down over head. Dark shadows covered the side of the walls. Ray wasn’t very excited about being here; he’d rather be sleeping. The doctor led him in to a dark room. Ray peeked in the room and realized nothing was in there.
“There’s nothing special about this room its empty.” Ray said.
Then Ray was knocked out on the hard cold floor. Ray awoke on an operating table handcuffed to it.
“Hey what’s going on? I knew you were weird but I didn’t think you were gay!” Ray yelled.
“I’m not gay.” Dr. Valcuin said as he held a syringe.
“Then what’s going on here?” Ray asked.
“I am going to clone you.” Dr. Valcuin said.
”Clone me? Is that possible?” Ray asked.
“With my technology we’ve found a way beside it was your father’s idea as well.” Dr. Valcuin said.
“My father’s?” Ray asked stunned.
“Yes, he needed an assistant with your kind of knowledge.” Valcuin said.
“I don’t get, so was my assignment just a farce to get me here?” Ray asked.
“In a sense, your father knew you were part of the science club and he suggested that they look into my research. I didn’t think they would go along with it.” Dr. Valcuin replied.
“I still don’t get it.” Ray said.
“All you have to do is hold still.” Valcuin said as he stuck the syringe into Ray’s arm.
Ray felt the sharp needle go through his skin. He watched as blood went into the veil.
Dr. Valcuin took the syringe out of Ray’s arm.
“That should be enough blood.” Valcuin said as his image reflected off the glass veil.
Dr. Valcuin took the veil of blood and put it in the cloning tank. The cloning tank was vertical shape and had a computer monitor next to it to help log in the components. It had four nasals over head which were used to beam down different amounts of energy to help give birth to the clone.
“This device will help make it form.” Dr. Valcuin said.
“You mean it will develop into another me?” Ray asked.
“Exactly.” Dr. Valcuin said.
“You’re nuts.” Ray told him.
Ray watched as the doctor began to develop the clone. He aimed the nasal beams and released energy out of the beams. Ray watched in horror as his blood suddenly began to evolve. Dr. Valcuin monitored the screen and saw every aspect of Ray’s genetic coding. Dr. Valcuin saw an abnormal genetic code on the computer monitor.
“This is not good.” Dr. Valcuin said.
“What’s the matter doc?” Ray asked.
“There’s an abnormal code in your genetics. Apparently this side contains to sudden out burst and rage. I’ll try to get rid of that portion so it can be pure.” The doctor said.
Ray watched as the doctor went away at the key board trying to get rid of the code before the being could become complete. Dr. Valcuin didn’t realize how much energy was pouring out of the beams. The computer began to short circuit and sparks flew out of the machine.
“Oh no!” Dr. Valcuin gasped.
The clone of Ray was now complete. The clone of Ray looked up at the doctor as his eyes peered out the tank.
“It’s an exact copy.” Ray said.
The doctor walked over to the tank in awe. The clone’s hand smashed through the glass. Glass scrapped the clone’s arm causing blood to come out. Blood from the clone’s wrist hit the floor. The clone grabbed the doctor by the neck.
“Doctor!” Ray shouted.
The clone dropped the doctor to the floor. The clone looked at Ray and his eyes turned yellow. He went into a fit of rage and stormed out of the lab room. The doctor held on to his neck as he tried to breath.
“Hey doctor get me out of here!” Ray demanded.
The doctor walked over to the operating table and uncuffed Ray. Ray ran out of the room as quickly as he could.
“Don’t chase after him!” Valcuin ordered.
Ray popped his head back into the room and said “I think I know my own self.”
“He’s too dangerous.” Valcuin told him.
Ray ran down the hall until he heard an explosion. He stopped once he saw the debris in front of him.
“What the hell?” Ray asked.
Ray saw his clone standing in an armored suit. He looked up at his clone and noticed his veins pulsating. An evil grin came over the clone’s face as he raised his arm in the air ready to smash him.
“He’s going to kill me.” Ray thought as he closed his eyes.
Then the clone let out an evil laughter. Ray looked up dumbfounded. Then there was a bright light coming out of a room down the hall. The clone saw this and decided to see what it was.
“Hey get back here!” Ray yelled as he followed him to the room.
Ray looked inside the room where the light was coming from. Ray saw the bright blue light spinning around in some sort of machine.
“What is that light?” he asked himself.
The clone looked at the machine that was projecting the light. He walked over to the machine. The clone noticed a date dialing system on it which showed the date, time and year. The clone began to play with the knobs.
“Hey stop!” Ray yelled.
The clone just laughed at him and jumped through the portal. Ray covered his face as the flash of light blew in his face.
“Damn, I’m not letting you get away!” Ray shouted.
The doctor ran into the room and saw Ray about to proceed into the machine.
“No don’t!” Dr. Valcuin protested.
“I’m going to go after him.” Ray told him.
The doctor grabbed Ray by the hand. The doctor jerked Ray over towards him. As he did that; Ray’s foot lifted up and hit the dial messing up the time zone on the machine. Ray knocked the doctor to the ground. Ray grinned and jumped through the never ending blue. Ray screamed as he was sucked through the time warp. Ray came tumbling out through the other side. Ray landed on the ground. He felt a mind numbing pain when he hit the ground.
“OW my ass.” Ray said as he rubbed his behind.
Ray felt some thing in his boot. He took the boot off and sand came pouring out into the ground.
“Sand?” he asked confused.
Ray got up from the ground and realized he was in a western town.
“Where the hell am I?” he asked.
Ray decided to have a look around the town. The area seemed like he was in his home town but every thing else looked different. The city wasn’t thriving as it was and there was sand surrounding the city. Several city blocks were torn down and there homeless people sitting on the streets. Ray found a bar nearby and decided to walk in. He sat down at the counter.
“What do you want?” the bar tender asked.
“What do I want?” Ray asked blinking his eyes twice.
“You going to buy some thing or are you just going to sit there?” the bar tender asked.
“A coke would be fine.” Ray said.
“You must be a newbie.” The bar tender said giving him a strange look.
Ray sat at the bar drinking his soda while watching the TV the bar tender had set up in the upper left corner of the wall. Ray saw that it was time for the news. Ray didn’t really care for the news as it was always depressing for him. He decided to sit there quietly and drink his soda.
“So far there have been no new sightings on the outlaw known as Ray Gun but the resources of the Earth are continuing to deplete greatly.” The news woman said.
Then there was a picture of Ray’s face on the screen. The bar tender looked at the screen and then at the man sitting at his bar. The bar tender had a double take and then his jaw dropped.
“He’s just a dork and he’s right here in my bar.” The bar tender thought.
Ray looked up and saw his face on the TV screen.
“Am I famous or some thing?” Ray asked.
“Hardly kid you’re wanted dead or alive for a hefty price too.” The bar tender said as he loaded his shotgun.
Ray’s jaw dropped to the floor and knocked over his can of soda. Then he rubbed the back of his head.
“Hehehe.” Ray said snickering “I believe you got me confused with some one else.”
The bar tender raised the shotgun and fired. Ray screamed as he ran out of the bar with the bar tender following closely behind him.
“Come back here!” the bar tender yelled.
“What did I do wrong!” Ray yelled as he ran down the streets.
As he ran down the dusty road, Ray began to wonder what was going on. Why his face on TV was and what did he do wrong any ways? Ray rubbed his chin and pondered “What city am I in any ways?” The bar tender began to fire more shots. Ray dove behind a wall to catch his breath.
“I didn’t do any thing wrong I just got here.” Ray said.
Soon a mob with pitchforks, guns and other weapons soon joined in with the bar tender. Ray peeked around the corner and then quickly hid him self.
“Where do I run?” Ray asked.
“Remember he’s armed and dangerous.” The bar tender said.
“I’m going to pin him alive.” The old lady with the pitch fork said.
“They’re going to kill me.” Ray said to him self.
“There he is!” an old man shouted.
Ray screamed as he began to take off again. The mob continued to chase after Ray. Some of the crowd fired potato guns at him. Ray dodged all of the objects that were thrown at him.
“This isn’t fair I don’t have any weapons!” Ray yelled.
Soon Ray ran down a dead end street and was now cornered by the mob. Ray stood there thinking what to do next. There was no way he was going to escape this time.
“You can’t run any where now.” The bar tender said as he aimed his shotgun.
“Your days of terror are over!” a crowd member said.
Ray reached into his pocket acting like he was going to pull out a weapon. The mob began to back up.
“Bang, Bang!” Ray said as he aimed his finger like a pistol.
“Huh?” the crowd asked in bewilderment.
“Did I scare yah?” Ray asked with a smile across his face.
“Is this guy the real guy or am I senile?” an old man asked as he scratched his head.
“This guy is an imposter.” A woman said as she left.
“Yah lets go home.” Another crowd member said.
“That was close.” Ray said with relief.
“Sorry for the inconvenience.” The bar tender replied as he began to walk away.
“Uh who exactly is this Ray Gun guy?” Ray asked.
“He is a dangerous man who wiped out most of Earth’s resources by using the internet.” The bar tender explained.
“When did this happen?” Ray asked.
“Ten years ago.” The bar tender told him.
“What year is it now?” Ray asked.
“2030.” The bar tender said.
Ray screamed as he didn’t realize how much time passed through since he jumped in the portal. He could have sworn that when he reached through the other side he would have meet up with his clone right away. What could have gone wrong? Ray was going to have to find the answers on his own.
