“You ready?” Evelyn asked hurriedly as she slipped on her high heels. She reached out towards Dev’s hand. “Help me up, would you?” Dev took her delicate hand in his and brought it to his lips, kissing it lightly.
“You look beautiful.” He murmured softly, his shining green eyes staring unblinking into Evelyn’s. Evelyn froze, surprised. Then she broke the gaze, turning her head away to hide the blush forming on her pale skin. “Oh…” He smiled at the small girl beside him before linking his arm with hers.
“Shall we?”
“Who is that guy with Evelyn?”
“I would so kill for a guy like that.”
“Evelyn is such a slut – I mean, look at how old that guy is.”
“How did Evelyn manage to get a guy like that? She’s not even that pretty.”
Evelyn stared around the room nervously, her hand clutching the edge of her blue silk dress. She unconsciously gripped Dev’s arm tighter. He stared down at the anxious girl beside him, a small smile curving onto his face. He removed her hand from his arm and placed it in his own hand.
“Care to dance?” he murmured. And, as if on queue, a slow song started up from the band. Evelyn nodded simply, letting herself be led out into the dance floor. Dev held her close to him, his hands resting on her hips.
“Ignore them Eve- It’s just us tonight.” She relaxed into his hold, resting her head on his shoulder.
“Let’s get out of here,” he suggested, his eyes glinting seductively.
“But that would ruin the surprise, wouldn’t it my pet?” he asked, letting his hand find its way to rest on her thigh. Evelyn let out an audible squeak.
“But I told my parents I’d be home by midnight,” she said, pushing his hand off of her.
“Well you’re already late, my Cinderella,” he smirked, tapping his finger on the clock. “How much worse can a little while longer be?” She seemed hesitant but didn’t voice out any concern.
“That’s a good girl.” He reached over and kissed the top of her head. “It’ll be only us tonight, just us-
“Watch out!” Evelyn yelled, motioning towards the headlights of a car coming right at them. But Dev only yawned and with a flick of his hand the other car flew into the ditch on the side of the road. He turned towards Evelyn.
“Like I said, it’ll only be us.” Evelyn edged back into the side of the car, fear radiating from her eyes.
“W-What did you do? What- what are you?” Without even waiting for a response she turned towards the door only to hear a click as all the doors were locked. She stared at Dev. He smiled sadly, shaking his head.
“And here I thought you were such a good girl.” He sighed, talking almost to himself. “I might have to punish you when we get there.” And so the tears broke loose from her eyes, her delicately laid make-up beginning to smear.
“Let me out of here,” she begged, shivering. “Please…”
“Well, I’ll be,” Dev started, looking genuinely surprised. “We’re here.” Evelyn tore her gaze from her captor to look around. A silent scream tore at Evelyn’s throat, her eyes bulging with the inability to take everything in. She whimpered softly, unable to put any words together. Fear shred her body, causing her to fall limp. Then the car door opened on her side.
“May I help the princess from her carriage?” Dev stood there, holding his hand out to her. She looked up at him, struggling to put a question together.
“W-who…?”
“Who am I?” Dev smiled, slightly amused. “Come on Eve, what do you think Dev is short for? Not Devon.”
“Dev…il?” she whispered. And here the Devil grinned.
“You always were the smart one, my little Eve.”
