It was a 1. blithe afternoon, when the sun was smiling cheerfully over the lush green meadow. Roses littered the edges of a large stone wall that encased a small hole in the ground. Butch, a pathetic weedy little creature, was the resident groundhog within this hole. Cotton candy clouds danced in the clear blue sky. Limber deer frolicked through the daisy field to the left of the stone wall. Rabbits, squirrels, and other woodland creatures from the neighboring friendly forest flocked to the meadow.

Butch, however, was a lonely little groundhog. The poor thing was quite a 2. misnomer; his mother didn’t know what a weak son she would have. So, Butch’s name was a complete misunderstanding. Everyone else in Butch’s family had moved away when they discovered what an embarrassment he would become.

The cobblestone path leading through the giddy meadow led 3. askew when it came to Butch’s house. The path forked one way to the social area of the field, and the other twisted it’s way to the groundhog’s humble abode. No one ever wanted to visit Butch. He was just the black sheep of the community. When his family moved on, he resolved that no one would ever love him.

One crisp spring morning, Butch awoke to a sound. A sweet melodic voice dangled in the air. It wound it’s way through the twisted path, and through the stone walls. Butch found himself listening to a delicate 4. sonorous accent. It was the harmonious sound of a female chipmunk.

Butch couldn’t help himself! He crawled out of his hole, and hastily scrambled over the obscure stone path. The groundhog was drawn to the sound. He looked this way, and that way, but still he could not find the singer. Suddenly, he stopped! There sitting on an old tree stump, with the glorious sun’s rays pouring down on her was the gorgeous chipmunk, and her 5. alluring voice. He was attracted to her from the moment he laid eyes on her.

How could such a beautiful angel as she, love such a waste of animal like him? He hid in the bushes, ashamed of what he was. He cowered and watched her from a distance, convinced that he would never be the critter for her. Alas, that night, the beautiful chipmunk ceased her singing, and climbed down from the stump when the sun’s rays had faded into moonbeams. She noticed the bushes shivering in the cool night air, and decided to investigate. Estella, the chipmunk, found Butch, lying there curled up in a fetal position dreaming sweetly. He was so pitiful that she couldn’t help but fall in love with him. So, when Butch awoke he found himself being stared dreamily at by the beautiful Estella. They lived happily ever after.

The End.
