Change

The present…

Pushing her hair up her forehead and out of her eyes, she gathered up the ever rising stack of papers to be resubmitted for checking. Briskly, she carried up the pile and started making her way to the director’s office.

The familiar carpeted corridors, neat efficient workers, quiet peace with only the occasional sound of typing and muffled conversation breaking the silence - she still could not believe that she was now working in a Multi-National-Corporation. In the past, this was something she had never dared to imagine. She had never bargained for this when she wished for a successful future. Well-liked, trusted as a worker, and steadily climbing up the career ladder, her life all seemed like something out of a dream, something out of another person’s life. Everything seemed so perfect and complete; it was all that she had wanted – a stable job, good income, a bright future in her career…

Hustle bustle. Never changing routine. Burdens. Cycle. Endless hurry. Breathless.

Yet was that all there was to her life? What was her purpose?

As she thought about it, she suddenly had a longing to go back in time again, to go back to being a child, without any burdens on her heart and mind, without duties forever holding her back… what was it she really truly wanted?

The past…

The field of flowers, the forest just beyond, the gardens and the river side… they were all her friends and teachers. Teaching her things about nature, animals, sciences, they took the young child in like a daughter. Taming her wild spirit to a soft gentle character without harming her adventurous attitude; nurturing her playful and inquisitive ways and turning it into a curiosity which sought answers with determination; gradually giving her patience and respect…

She was happy there and spent much of her life with her teachers. She was contented with all that she had and let her carefree heart sing with joy. But slowly, she started to long to explore the world beyond her own boundaries, she yearned to grow up and break free of the protective cage her parents had built around her. She wanted to pursue her dreams, ambitions, to embrace the ‘perfect world’ she had imagined she would build. She wished with all her heart t grow up and be something more…

Changing…

Someone had once said, “One of the biggest mysteries of mankind is that he quickly gets bored with childhood, rushes to grow up, then later longs to be children again.” We know that our lives will change and we will reach another stage sooner or later. But whether we enjoy it is another matter altogether. The realization of such a concept happens to every single one of us. But we often realize it too late.

Trees bloom, then their leaves fall, and then they turn bare. But later, in spring, there will be new life and the trees will grow again. Many things in nature change and then they wilt but they can continue as a cycle and there is a chance for rebirth or regrowth.

Yet for humans, there is no turning back, but just goes on – our lives change all the time and eventually we die. We often do not make the best of our life and live it to its fullest but ask for more and are never fulfilled. What we do not realize that our lives are constantly changing. If we do not enjoy one stage of it and be contented, we will regret it deeply later.

Change is the constant of life, the signal of rebirth, the egg of the phoenix - which would one day turn into ashes, only to give way to another life.
