Generation: Self-Destruct

Drugs, drinking, debauchery;
suicide, sex, and cutting.
We practice self-medication
using whatever dulls the pain.
Our generation is falling apart,
we're orphans of hippies and freaks.
The family is dead, and marriage is dying,
and friends can't promise us shit.
Church-members sit back,
praying for souls,
while hoping we change clothes
before sitting in pews.
And teachers watch students
blow brains out with bullets,
disappointed, they fail us
with overused red pens.
Doctors and specialists examine intensely
trying to find out what’s wrong;
while denying the facts, and strong opinions,
that they're what fucked up our world.
They drug us and beat us
and tell us we're useless,
yet hope we can function
like good human beings.
We're a generation born
from ignorant fools
who can't be responsible
cause they never learned how.

So we'll celebrate our victories
whenever we have them.
And medicate each other
with what there is left.
We'll live like we're beasts
cause you taught us we are.
We'll evolve on our own
or kill ourselves trying.
We're a generation self-destructing
with each day and each pain.
Cause we've taken too much
and we've run out of options.
So when there's none of us left
and you live in our ashes
or bury us all in mass graves...
who will you blame for all of our pain?
Maybe, just maybe
it's you.
