Remember the Skyline

There's this magickal place, where
people aren't always nice,
where winters and springs and
summers and falls

Are All Beautiful

The special thing about this place
is it's skyline
Its jutting
stabbing
silver skyline

That reaches for the sky
either to hug it
or hurt it

I think this is why
This place's people
are the way they are

They are like it's skyline
Friendly and mean
Harsh and warm

The people mirror it's skyline

And at night, the whole of this place
shines
with metallic diamond pinpricks
of light
From windows
and street lights
and cigarette butts

This place, is where I was born
Where I was made
How I learned to
talk
walk
and be curious

There is always something
to look at in this place
Cat Ladies and
Old wrinkly men
who sit so still
You think some Art student
from a school just down the street
sculpted them
and plopped them right on a bench

Until they say something
Some random sentence
that stays in the air forever
More permenent than the graffiti
on the walls
Right Behind them

But one day
One day
A bad, bad day
a flying machine
crashed into an important part
of the skyline
and the whole place
even some of the people who moved away
felt themselves break
Because
they were connected to the skyline
which was connected to them
which gave them
themselves
So...
they broke

And though the rest of the world
felt sorry for the place
and helped them clean up
and sent money
and there were "moments of silence"
in elementary schools everywhere
The People in the Place
were still broken

They dream of the old skyline
and Look at the empty space
and feel sad
and lost
and lonely

they Remember the skyline
Do you?
