Wisp of Air

In the rolling meadows with the grass bright green
Near the smiling daisies, midst an aura so serene
Lies a precious gem, her hair dancing as the wind blows,
Her eyes sky-blue, her dress as white as fresh fallen snow.

Step by step I walk to her, my heart begins to race,
I slowly smile and run as I see her radiant face.
My heart is pounding, I've never seen someone so fair;
I close my eyes, reach out, and grasp but a wisp of air.
Eyes darting, ever searching, I spot the leafless tree.
I wrap my arms around me as warmth and comfort flee.

In the silent meadows with the grass so gray,
Near the putrid daisies, uglier than words can say;
Coldly I lie here as darkened clouds pass overhead
Cruel fate - why place me here, midst the aura of the dead?
