-))the next morning((-

i woke up in your bed next to a bundle of empty blankets,

remembering last night & the fact that you never complimented me (anymore)

i would have looked for you if i had not already known

that you would be smoking another lucky strike & blowing

hollow, blue sky-tinted circles out of your (only) bedroom window

you turned to face me once you heard the stirring sheets,

flashing me a sleepy, half-moon smile & whispering,

“i think i love you the most in the morning

because the sun complements your make-up free face

in a way the moon never could.”

& i just don’t understand why no one else ever sees that you‘re (too) perfect (for me)
