Anti-Valentine

Valentine's Day.
Made to break the poor,
ruin the single,
and divorce those together.
Should I thank thee
or hate thee
for 20 years of misery?
...with one or two exceptions.

Frilly hearts and gay colours;
A baby in huggies,
has wings and a bow.
Huge heart shaped boxes of candy
designed for
super busy dates
which are impossible to book
and rarely end well,
are too much money for
too little candy,
and almost nothing
in return.

So why the hell do it?

We set aside a whole day
to show we love each other,
when it should be day in
and day out.
Have we become so pathetic
that we've stooped to this level,
where romance means sex
and love's truly dead?
If not, I'm still certain
that love can't exist,
in this faux-holiday on
the 14th of Feb.
