Chapter 1
One of a kind.
The night was calm. Only the sound of the wind blowing through the allies of a secluded town, and the endless song of the alcoholics within the many pubs and taverns could be heard by the figure in black standing alone in a dark alley, the cold night air rustling his trench coat, and impatience taking over him. He looked at his watch. 11:50. He ran a hand through his silver hair. Darkness was all that surrounded him in the alley as the moonless nights always provided the best cover for late night meetings such like he was waiting for.
“Where is he?” the man demanded. “Why the fuck is he always late?” Suddenly, he heard the footsteps of someone approaching. The man opened his mouth and revealed the immense fangs of a vampire poised for the kill. He hissed loudly as another vampire like himself rounded the corner and entered the alley. This vampire was dressed in a similar coat but wore a crimson suit beneath it. He carried a large sack over his shoulder, which was moving all about as he set it to the ground. The two men embraced one another.
“Brother why are you so late? This meting was to tae place and hour ago.” The first vampire declared as the other smiled back.
“My apologies brother, but the, ‘package’ didn’t arrive on schedule either.” Both creatures turned their attention to the burlap sack that was moving and moaning. The second vampire lifted the sack and poured the contents onto the frigid concrete. A little girl with short brown hair, no older than 9 stared up at both vampires, she was bound and gagged.
“Tonight brother, we will dine properly. Tonight we feast on human blood an not that of PIGS!” The young girl began to cry, she knew what was about to happen, she wanted to go home, she wanted her mother. She tried with all her might to scream for help but the cloth in her mouth muffled her cries. The two vampires revealed their fangs as the approached their bound pray. The first vampire lowered himself to her neck and inhaled her sweet scent.
“Ya know boys, I’ve never really minded the taste of good pork. Maybe you guys ought to stop eating the runts.” Both vampires looked to the end of the alley. There, illuminated by the lights of the street, stood a man dressed in a long black coat, a pair of jeans, blue and white kicks, and a white, torn t-shirt. His hair was short and brown, but untamed, and at his side, hanging by a piece of string was a wooden katana. There, at the end of the alley, stood, 25 year old, Kreed.
“Dear God!” the second vampire whispered.”
“Wow, you know that guy too? Well, what do ya know, we do have something in common.” Kreed joked as he began to walk slowly toward them.
“What are you doing here triune? You have no business here.”
“Actually, it’s a really funny story. Ya see I got this call about a missing girl, and then I got a call not five minutes later about vampire sightings. Turns out, I get to sack both jobs right here at the same time. Small world isn’t it.” The second vampire hissed and lunged at Kreed, screaming as he flew through the air, “I will not let my hard work go to waste!”
“Waste this,” Kreed replied calmly as he drew his wooden blade and in one strike, sliced the vampire straight down the middle. The remains of the creature turned to ash not seconds later. Kreed lowered his weapon to his side and turned to face the other vampire.
“ya know, you vampires really are too easy for me. You see my sword here. Yeah it may be wood, but I can charge it with angelic or demonic energy and cut through steel with it. But with you guys, I just let the fact that it’s also been blessed by 3 priests, a monk, 2 bishops and a crazy guy who thought he was the pope, do all the work for me. Not to mention I just put a fresh coat of holy water on there, just for you.” Kreed walked slowly toward the cowering creature. “I don’t understand you. I made a pact with Drake a long time ago that human feeding in this town was off limits. Why do you keep coming back here? Especially when you know I’m gonna fry your ass every time you do.” Kreed stopped and held the tip of his blade just inches from the creature’s throat. “I’m gonna show you mercy, your master and I go way back. Not to mention you weren’t stupid enough to pick a fight with me, knowing what I am and all. Go back to your home, and don’t let me catch your kind around here again.” Kreed sheathed his sword and walked toward the girl.
The vampire turned to fly off, but then stopped and turned to see the slayer with his back toward him. This could be his chance to earn a name for himself, the one who killed Kreed, the Triune, the legendary slayer. He made his decision, he crouched down and then leapt forward, hissing madly as flew through the air.
Kreed stopped and looked over his shoulder. He saw the oncoming vampire and rolled his eyes.
“You never learn do you?” Kreed back flipped and landed on top of the vampire, forcing him the ground. “You are grounded young man!” He took his sword and stabbed it down through the vampire’s head, and waited for it to disintegrate before continuing toward the girl. “Too easy, then again when are vampires hard?”
He knelt down to the girl and untied her. She instantly backed into the wall and hugged it screaming, “Please don’t hurt me mister!” Kreed raised an eyebrow and smiled.
“Kids today, ya just can’t predict them.” Kreed thought of ways to calm the child down for about 30 seconds before the idea finally clicked. He focused all of his positive energy and partially transformed into an angel, just enough to sprout his wings.
“Look little one,” Kreed said in a mock angel voice, and trying his hardest no to laugh at himself. “You see I am, your guardian angel, I will do you no harm. Come take my hand, an I shall lead you home.” The girl jumped up and hugged him.
“Oh thank you, thank you so much angel, I promise I’ll go to church every Sunday from now on.” Kreed smiled and silently said, “Swish!” He retracted his wings and took the girl’s hand as the walked to her home. Kreed expected to have a check for 60 waiting for him there.
