Six Years Earlier

I watched Jake and the guys pull out of the driveway.

He was waving all the way.

Most likely continuing even when he knew I couldn’t possibly see it anymore.

That’s when the tears started flowing. They just kept coming.

Trina noticed and threw her arms around me in a tight embrace.

I clung to her like she was the only thing holding me there.

She led me into the house and sat me down on the couch. Then she kneeled down in front of me and asked gently if I wanted her to stay tonight.

I shook my head slowly and said, “I am just going to go to sleep. Go home. I’ll call you tomorrow when I wake up.”

She nodded and left.

I waited half an hour and then got up. I knew what I had to do.

I went to my room and started to pack my things.

I don’t have many personal belongings so it didn’t take that long once I was finished with my clothes.

I took out my jar of money I had saved.

It had already been counted.

I had almost eleven thousand dollars.

Money saved from since I was a little girl.

Christmas money, birthday money, lunch money, work pay checks, and just money I earned or was given.

I put it all in this jar.

I knew now that I would need all of it.

Luckily, I have a car. It was a present from my parents before they died.

It is a good car because they were rich.

I don’t get my inheritance until I am 21 though.

Hopefully I can find a well paying job. I know my money won’t last that long.

Mallory will help me out. She is who I am running to. Of course she doesn’t know she is actually helping two people out, not one.

I hope she won’t mind.

She was my best friend before I moved three years ago.

No one will know where to look for me because they don’t know her.

For that I am thankful.

I have to disappear completely.

If Jake finds me his career and life will be screwed up.

I know he loves me. I love him too. With all my heart.

That is why I must go. If he finds out…he’ll quit the band and ruin his chances.

I know he will.

But he needs to have a life.

Be famous.

Be successful.

I am doing all this for his good.

He will find another love.

I will be happy for him even though I know it will kill me inside

If it is fate then we will see each other again.

If it isn’t meant to be then we won’t.

I know that he would be angry with me if he finds out.

So maybe it is better for me to watch from the sidelines while he has a life, a career, success.

He has earned it. I know that for sure.

I only wonder what he will think when he comes home and I am not here.

I think I will leave him a note.

I can’t do that.

I need to tell him I love him though.

So he doesn’t forget.

No.

He needs to forget me.

I need to hurry.

I need to get as far away as I can.

So they have less chance of finding me.
