A Moment of Tenderness
We’re sitting on his bed, when out of nowhere his mom turns on the radio.
“I love this song, “ he cries leaping from the bed.
He starts dancing, rocking his hips to the backbeat, and throwing his arms above his head. He’s happy in away I’ve never seen before, his smile lights up the room. All time seems to stop; I’m frozen on the bed, my hungry eyes drinking up the sight greedily. A small smile brushes my lips for the first time in weeks. A new song comes on the radio, a slow on. He starts to sing along, his voice out shining the singer on the radio.
“ Come and dance with me,” he pleads, a tiny pout replacing the brilliant smile.
How could I resist? I reach my hand out and he helps me off the bed. Before he can let go of my hand I pull him into my arms and hold him, whispering in his ear how beautiful he is, telling him exactly what he means to me. We hold each other like our very lives depend on it. After awhile we start to sway to the music. I feel as though I’m flying, dancing in the clouds.
“ I love you so much,” he whispers as our song comes to an end.
Not wanting him to pull from our embrace I place a tender kiss on his lips and whisper,
“I love you more,”
