Authoress' Notes:

The kyrielle is an archaic form of poetry, originating in France, intended as a religious ode. I've put a twist on the traditional context here, while adhering to the standard meter and rhyme scheme.

-

Lycanthropic Kyrielle

-

The radiance upon my skin

Awakes a fire deep within,

A burning fierce on clearest night –

O winter’s Moon, with hoary light!

-

It sears my breast, the aching yawn

That spurs and thrills the impulse on,

To run, to howl, to claw and bite –

O winter’s Moon, with hoary light!

-

I have no fear of Nocturne’s kin,

Of blood drinker or barrow-wight;

I draw my strength from what begins:

O winter’s Moon, with hoary light!

-

Say bloodlust’s get, cry hellhound’s spawn,

Those words and slurs that rise from fright,

But all threat passes with the dawn:

O winter’s Moon, with hoary light!
