Lauren

Foolish Cupid, wing'ed tamperer of love
Dared to pierce the heart of Apollo
Whose eyes wandered,
Catching the beauty of the nymph Daphne.

Young and radiant,
A follower of Artemis,
Daphne sought no man,
Desiring to remain pure.

She ran and ran,
Yet the sun's rays were always on her heel.
Apollo would find her and force her to be his.

With no other choice, begging her father for mercy
The sweet nymph Daphne was transformed into a laurel tree.
Forever avoiding the greedy, loving hands of Apollo,
Yet remaining eternally one with nature.

Thus a crown of laurel leaves wraps around,
Heroes and Emperor's heads,
A sacred sign of honor and victory,
Of the dear Daphne
