I looked with your eyes
Iudeis/Romano eyes
Eyes that never
Saw
Clearly
What I see now
Eyes that clouded
Themselves
With fear and
L o n g i n g
To be alone/together
I gazed with your eyes
Mi pulchrissime
(As you would have said)
And saw
Blood-built,
Blood-kept,
Blood-stained
Arches
Like the
Broken backs
That formed their shape
And here I lay and wept
(If only in voice)
I watched with my eyes
And saw only
The sun
The sun in a blue sky
On a perfect day
I trailed my sight
Across, between, along
The smooth stone
And grooves that
Screamed of ages
