When I asked you why my pet died
You replied with
"It’s only natural.”

When the leaves changed color in the fall
I asked why.
“It’s only natural,” you said
again.

When I hit puberty
I asked why
(how did it happen?)
And you repeated
“It’s only natural.”

And when you left
I couldn’t help but ask,

“Why?”

“It’s only natural,”
was all you said
before you walked
out the door.
