Rising, Riding, Rolling, Reeling,
Heartbeats of the beasts beneath them,
Steady, sturdy, strong, appealing,
Patience grips the urge of freedom,
They grip the reins and hold their hearts,
The field lies flat and free to fly,
They dig their heels and then depart,
Forget the past and say goodbye.
Steady rhythm of the footfalls,
Flying in the clouds and heavens,
Lying flat out when the wind calls,
Joining sky and horse and men.
Warm and strong and swift and sailing,
They trust the heart beneath their own.
Spirits free and souls unfailing,
Release the only world they’ve known.
They race through wind and rain and snow,
Never pausing and never near,
Never ending flowing meadow,
Wind, horse and rider disappear.
